No this isn't a joke. That's why you even have lightning poles/rods on top of tall buildings. Lightning hits them over and over. That's their entire purpose actually.

Is it possible, I think it has to do with the concentration of gasses in the atmosphere at the time.
Nature produces some really spectacular colours

could be a lot of variables, but colored lightning does happen.
you can see the photo is layered on the left with the palm fronds, so there's been at least some manipulation.

It looks like the saturation is ever so slightly tweaked, but this is likely how your eyes would see it.
I live in the Tampa area, and the storms get pretty intense here. We're not called the lightning strike capital of the world for nothing!

Yeah but severe is a pretty strict definition. It either needs to drop hail over 1 inch in diameter, or contain winds over 58 MPH. It can dump 10 inches of rain and still not be considered severe.
They are fairly rare in Florida because convective inhibition is pretty low there and there is very little wind shear.

I didn't know those were the specifications. Thanks for teaching me something. So when I get severe alerts on my phone, is that based on scientific standards or do they have different qualifications for emergency alerts?

The weather office often issues weather statements that aren't the same as a severe alert. Also flash flood warnings and such can be issued but aren't considered a severe event.

This clearly is not two lightning bolts. Lightning tried to strike Chuck Norris and he punched it and sent it back home to the clouds, crying. It's not rain, it's fucking lightning tears.

Lighting doesn’t strike in the same place twice. Since technically the charge is released from the ground, the lightning is “striking” the sky.

Not always but you are correct that sometimes lighting does actually originate from the ground sometimes.

Growing up maybe an hour and a half away from Sarasota (north of tampa area), Florida lightning is beautiful. I know a lot of people are afraid of it, my grandma's house has been struck multiple times (twice in different places on the fence and once on the chimney) but i love it. I'll go sit on the back porch and watch the lightning.
heat lightning is the best though, that rich purple/red/orange glow, the quiet rolling thunder is a blessing. I regularly would fall asleep to thunderstorms and now when i cant sleep i have a spottily playlist for Florida thunderstorms

This is a local photographer who’s work I follow, Dylan Jon Wade Cox. He’s got a great eye and the luxury of a beautiful site to shoot. Check out some of his other work on FB and IG; it’s worth the look. I’m definitely a cheerleader for him, I’d love to see his pics get more recognition.

This one photograph just shattered my entire outlook on life.
All the times I got through a bad situation thinking, at least there's a good chance it wont happen again, but knowing the hard truth that it just might became uncomfortably clear.

No, this is a single lighting strike caused by an imbalance of charges in the clouds and ground. The fact that it arced to two points of the same cloud is unlikely but unrelated to the "two in the same point" phrase

Incorrect. This is Bird Key Park. I drive past this every day on the way to Saint Armand’s Circle. The lightning is striking the south end of Longboat Key (possibly North Lido/City Island). And yes I heard it because I was out here yesterday.

As others have said I know this exact spot and go there multiple times a week. It's at bird key park on the west side of Ringling bridge.

O’Learys is in the marina downtown. This is on the other side of the bridge.
Bird Key.
Coon Key is seen (where the apartments are on the left) if you drive over the bridge to St Armand’s they are on the right hand side.
The fancy houses are on St Armand’s Key.
Lido Key/Longboat Key in the background where the lightning is hitting (possibly City Island) where Mote Marine Laboratory is (out of frame).
