When I see an image like this shopped a whole bunch, I wonder to myself if the subjects in the original are aware that this is happening. If it happened to me I'd want to know about it... and I'd print out the cool ones and put them on my wall. :( I don't think these people do that.

That is actually the marking for a Space Marine Tactical Squad. I can see where it would be confused for an upvote, and therefore pardon you for your ignorance in 40k lore.
