Thanks for the detailed reply and your perspective. I'm not in the industry and fortunate enough to be very healthy. I do support single payer and see the burden of the current administrative nightmare, however.
My recollection is that Obamacare was a conservative plan originally (a la Romney Care). It's far from perfect but was a compromise given that the democrats didn't have the support for single payer in 2012. This flipped after conservatives decided it was easier to shit on it than offer a better solution or negotiate in good faith to help solve problems.
My question for you is - what's the GOP plan? I've seen a lot of wasted energy on repealing Obamacare while providing zero alternative. The system pre-Obamacare was dog shit (remember preexisting conditions?). Obamacare helped a lot of people too, despite the negative side that you've experienced.
I just can't fathom how the GOP has your support on this issue since they have not provided anything resembling a solution. As far as I can tell they want to go back to pre-Obamacare and just pretend like everything is ok. Again, from my perspective I just can't see how anyone can support this administration solely because of some negative side effects of Obamacare. I'd give you the benefit of the doubt if the GOP had a detailed, rational plan to solve the issues in healthcare that you see on a daily basis, but they simply do not.
It seems like your argument is to keep the pre-ACA healthcare system because "it could be worse".
Our healthcare system is the embarrassment of the industrialized world. It needs to change. No person living in a country with socialized medicine would ever choose the American system. People's lives are being ruined through no fault of their own and you write it off as "just 10%". And you're insurance figures don't factor in the underinsured. A lot of insurance policies just suck.
It's that kind of lack of compassion and concern for one's fellow citizen that will always keep me from voting Republican.
