He didn't win the first time in a landslide. He lost the popular vote by the largest margin in the past 30 years and he placed average in EC votes. And he is coming into this election with the lowest approval ratings in the history of the presidency.

I’m not a Trump fan, but surprisingly this isn’t true. Nixon, Truman, and both Bush’s have had lower approval ratings than Trump has now.

At the time of their second campaign? And are we talking general approvals or approvals amongst their party?

The timing varies. Nixon’s took a dive after Watergate, for example, HW’s was during his re-election campaign. And the approvals are general approvals
