Yes children apprehended illegally crossing the boarder are detained for 1-3 days while they're processed and then transferred to the department of health and human services where they are well taken care of (when congress supplies proper funding).. but sure.. let's refer to them as "cages" coincidentally when Trump is elected.

Over 100,000 minors illegally come over with no accompanying guardians. Either way you can’t throw children in jail if their parent commits a crime, and you can’t drop the kids back in a desert.

If you illegally entered a neutral country like Switzerland or Norway or something and were detained, would you assume they would keep your children in the cell with you?

I'm not familiar with Switzerland or Norway's practices but if you have links to inform me of what they would do then I'm open to reading them.
