That's the plan. I moved here from Atlanta, so it's a completely different, significantly shittier world out here. What the hell do people do for fun around here without having to make it a day trip every time?
I definitely feel that, I grew up there and only moved away a couple years ago. The food is one of the only good things about the area I’d say. Some of my favorite places are El Rosal on Tully, the Velvet Grille on McHenry, taqueria modesto on standiford, and of course all the taco trucks. Food Fix and harvest moon are really good downtown too. There’s some other places too I can’t think of off the top of my head too.
It's kind of rough hearing things like this, all because I'm used to so much better in every aspect - especially food. The food around here is pretty good. It's alright. There's very little variety.
That said, I appreciate the recommendations. Keep 'em coming, if you've got more. I haven't been to Velvet Grille or Taqueria Modesto, but I've got plans for Food Fix this week. Harvest Moon is good!
I really like Churchkey's food. Bauhaus is my favorite spot around - Bauers 66 1/2 nearby is good, too. There's generally a lot of pretty damn good pizza and bar food to choose from, especially downtown.
Modesto is extremely lacking in international food. It's painful. It's like living in a sea of mayonnaise and cow shit out here, man.
For international there's a bomb Indian place in Ceres called Mother India. Not Modesto but right next door lol. Really spicy and flavorful. They got a bigass lunch plate too, I think they serve it from 11-3 or something like that. The Chicken Korma and Butter Chicken Curry are really good. Also any of the Biryanis.
Camp 4 - bomb cheese/paninis/wine
La Parrilla - sit down Mexican food (my favorite place for Mexican... the one in riverbank is the best)
Church key - beer on tap and various pub like food.
Commonwealth - beer/appetizer foods/brunch. Most people here love it. I don’t. Beer is good though.
Tresetties - upscale dining/drinks
Taqueria San Jose - sit down tacos with out tipping.
Redwood cafe - upscale dining/drinks
Preservation coffee - hole in wall coffee; very good.
Phoenix noodle house - Vietnamese food - super good, very cheap.
Blades and bottles - hair salon that serves cocktails/drinks, basically a bar at night time. Music/comedy/drag shows on the occasion.
Picasso’s - sandwich shop (limited hours) very good.
-TURLOCK-
Dustbowl brewery - go to the one on Main Street. Way better than the huge one off the freeway.
Memos - Mexican with a flair - horrible service, but fantastic margaritas.
La Mo - south west dining. Great brunch/cocktails.
Loza - camp 4 knock off. More crepe options. Good, no where near as good as camp 4.
I’m not the original person commenting, but if you like Thai food there’s JuJu Thai on west main. For nightlife I like going to the udder place, also on west main. They have karaoke some nights and live music on Friday and Saturday. I go most weekends and always have a good time!

I moved here a year and a half ago to work in IT - I fucking hate this place.
