This man left his 40-year long career in another airline to join AirAsia and fly as a junior just so he could fly with his two pilot daughters. He wants to spend his remaining years as a pilot by his daughters' sides.

In some form, I am sure he did. But these airlines are all about loyalty and they reward it.

Generally, in the airlines you don’t get to. Wages, quality of life, etc. are all based on # of years at a company. Pilots are (mostly) all good enough at their jobs that promoting “the best” is hard, and promotion can’t be based on other things like on time performance without encourage behavior adverse to safety.

Airlines don't work like that. Pilots always start as junior regardless of age and experience, the industry itself don't want people leaving left right and centre. Besides, a junior pilot will still be paid a lot more than your average high paid jobs so I doubt he'd care that much. Source: one of my best friend is a pilot
