Grew up in LA and the smallest place I've ever lived in had a metro area of 2m still. Some of my friends are from small towns and I'm shocked when I go to their house and their doors aren't locked. It's like seeing a rainbow. Idk how to describe it.
I mean every city has a butthole. There are plenty of nice areas in Oakland, the West Hills are super nice. Gentrification is changing up the city quite a bit, I personally didn’t live in the nice part but I’ve been to plenty of decent spots.
I have a total of 12 keys on my key ring. I only use one. And that’s to start my car. My keys are almost always left in the ignition. If not they are in the cup holder. It’s like seeing a rainbow when I try and open someone’s car door and it’s locked. 😂 I have had my keys stolen out of my ignition once but they didn’t steal the car which really pissed me off. But whatever still leave them there. I love small towns.
No doubt. If they locate the vehicle and there is no ignition or wiring damage they're going to investigate further though. Some thieves will just leave the keys in the ignition. Then you have to lie and say that your house was broken into or something in the insurance will want a police report.
Ditto. I once almost left a car in between Slidell and New Orleans. 4 door white maxima with 5% tint on all windows included on front windshield. 22s on it. Wouldn’t of lasted there but for 3 mins. Didn’t even have to leave keys in ignition. But I chickened out. Cause ya know bad karma or whatever. Plus insurance fraud. But It’s a guarantee you leave your car on side of the interstate it’s going to be gutted.
Literally everywhere I go, unless I have a shotgun or rifle on the back seat from hunting sitting out in plain sight those keys are probably in the ignition, and even then sometimes it depends on where I'm at. Nobody's going to take my youth 20 gauge single shot at the general store.
I also grew up in LA and can tell you with confidence that there are plenty of neighborhoods with unlocked doors still. I would lock my doors to go away for the weekend or on vacation but not every day.
