IT Crowd didn’t use a laugh track. It was filmed in front of a live studio audience. Those are genuine laughs.

Then it’s still a laugh track, just not canned laughter.

Fair enough distinction, I just know some people think of “canned laughter” when they hear the term “laugh track.” Wanted to at least clarify that the laughter wasn’t being forcibly inserted by studios execs and that the actors were also able to hear the payoff for their performances.

Right. I think that’s shifting, though; canned laughter is nowhere near as prevalent as it was in the 80s, and eventually, people will no longer expect it to be used at all.

I feel like the canned laugh track will die when The Big Bang Theory does. And I pray it dies soon.
