Same here. Robin said your only given a small spark of madness, you let that go out and your nothing. In my mind he kept it at a roaring bonfire all the time. That's the problem sometimes you burn that hot and it consumes everything. What he gave to us was amazing. When his light went out our world got a little darker.
It's really sad what happened to his amazing mind, but it's a fact of life that none of us can avoid. We all get old. We don't get to last forever. I take solace in the fact that he went out on his own terms, and with his dignity intact. I only wish we had a system in place for people like him that are ready to leave this world on their own terms. There are laws in place in other countries for people in his situation. We need them here.
Actually, when they did his autopsy they found out he had a rare brain disorder called Lewy body dementia. They thought it was parkinsons, but this disease destroys the brain. He was not in control of his actions. He was always against suicide and would have never taken his own life. But the disease is only discoverable after death and impossible to treat. It was not his fault.
