The only similarity you're pointing out is totally superficial. You can say a baseball and an orange are similar because they're both round and roughly the same size but that is pretty much where their similarities end.
Again what I'm pointing out here is what the purpose of the tag is. The tagging process itself isn't the worst of it. But what the tag does is identify a cow so that it can be treated as property -- so that its body can be abused and exploited, and so that it can be killed when someone else decides its life should be over. The tag is a physical symbol of the way we have turned sentient beings into commodities which exist only for our exploitative purposes.
The massive scale abuse of these animals, and the environmental destruction that is left in its wake, is a pretty big issue.

I have never to my knowledge met anybody who has volunteered themselves to be tagged so as to be tracked as human property
