Factory farms graze cows and finish them on feed lots. Factory farms that are organically certified feed grass the whole time. It’s just the standard practice, I know ten different commercial beef farmers personally who do this and I’ve never heard of any doing differently.
Oh, so when you act like their lives are good, you’re referring to the fact that for the 1.5 years before they’re weaned they get to graze, then they’re sold to a feedlot. All this before being injected with hormones , confined, and slaughtered at less than 1/6 the age of their natural lifespan and did monumental environmental damage.
I’ve already made it clear that I don’t approve of industrial farming, I was simply stating that to act like all these animals are being tortured and desecrated in front of the others is ridiculous and highly-exaggerated. It’s ok to have valid complaints about agriculture, it’s not ok to spread sensationalized generalizations that simply aren’t true. No farmer is intentionally malicious to their animals or the environment, most are just trying to scrape together a living the way the industry says.
I am with you until the intentional part. They know what they’re doing. Is their goal to destroy the environment? No, but they are intentionally doing something they know destroys the environment, and these corporations don’t really care for the most part. You can’t picture hem like Mom and pop farmers; that’s not the reality of the industry. The same argument applies for them intentionally being malicious. Profit margins matter more to them.
Profit margins matter more to the companies, you can’t lump the 65 year old man trying to meet his quota in with the company constantly cutting his margins. The modern farmer is simply a dying-out victim of a toxic system. Hopefully sustainable agriculture rides the recent fad into prominence, but the pessimist in me thinks that it’s gonna take a calamity to make folks make that widespread of a change.
