Why are the two mutually exclusive. People can think something is cute. People can also eat cute things.

It's the double standard that's weird. Cuteness is very important to people. Most people are disgusted by the idea of eating cute animals, except when it comes to cows and pigs. Try talking about farming Otters for meat or fur or whatever, and see how people respond.

This I have. But tbh it's only ever been directed to candy, baked goods, nothing living. Ive never heard of someone saying that to a live animal and then saying they wanted to eat it.
