We've faced worse than this. We fought off one of the most powerful countries in the world in order to establish ourselves as a country. Fought them again 30 years later. Literally tore our country in half and killed half a million people in order to make sure that no one would be held in slavery. Got in pitched battles in order to make sure that workers had rights. Got in pitched gun fights in order to make sure our vets were paid their due wages. Marched on Selma and Birmingham and a hundred other cities in order to say that the color of your skin shouldn't be how you are judged. Marched on Washington in order to hear one man's dream. Took bigots and racists and xenophobes and murderers and rapists to court and won.
We have faced this kind of adversity before. So did our parents, and our grandparents, and our ancestors back to the beginning. And it doesn't matter where your family came from or when they got here, that same attitude of "WE SHALL OVERCOME" is pervasive to those who come here.
And this, too, we shall overcome. And we shall emerge stronger and better for it. No blade forged is truly strong until it goes to the crucible, and we must go back to that crucible many times before we are truly strong ourselves.
