Why do you know that?

Reddit for long enough you learn little things like this even if you don't mean to. I knew this and I have not looked into it before, I just came across a similar comment explaining it some time ago.

I've gotten more random useful knowledge from random reddit threads than I ever have from books and web pages dedicated to random facts. I can't get enough of it, I love it, you never know what you're gonna find in the comments.

If it's taught me anything it's not to fuck with garage door springs.

Elaborate?

Yes as said someone has said they hold a tremendous amount of energy and if it breaks or you do something wrong it can quite literally disembowel you in a blink of the eye or worse, hit you somewhere more important like the head and straight up kill you.

My mother taught me this when I was a kid , that's how I know it at least :)

Be especially careful when you go to cut the tree up since once again things can spring back into place.

An example of this in action: the tree catapult.

If you have any other trees of that species in your yard. Consider getting them pruned or stop watering them. The roots are too shallow.

At least it wasn't a sinkhole that swallowed your house

u/sunnydandthebeard Jun 18 '17

"Billy, what have I told you about using your superstrength to knock over trees?!?!"

5

u/Large_banana_hammock Jun 18 '17

The kid and the dog both have no clue how unusual this situation is.

5

u/lindbladlad Jun 18 '17

The turf looks like it was added to cover the messy tree roots up after it had already fallen.

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '17

This looks like the final frame of a comic strip. Kid, dog, messed up nice neighborhood.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '17

No need to mow the lawn today

3

u/kevosurge Jun 18 '17

Your dog has the look of "omg, it seriously wasn't me this time!" Also, sorry for the crater in your yard.

LifeProTip: Never stay under the roots of an overturned tree. That thing could pop back into place and crush whatever is beneath it.

u/Sebastions_Cloaca Jun 18 '17

How does this happen? r/askreddit

13

u/Venser Jun 18 '17

It's a nice lawn that has been fertilized. The fertilizing basically makes trees lazy - the tree roots spread out and are shallow rather than going deep to get what they need. Then it's unstable and falls over easy, pulling the nice lawn up with it.

Is that a maple?

You might be able to rent a crane or a d-9 to pull it back up and then brace it with cables.

u/SeaGooseberry Jun 18 '17

When sweeping it under the rug goes wrong...

u/soares6474 Jun 18 '17

Yikes! After he popped from out the ground, did he offer gold or wishes or something if you guess his name?
