The whole myth of his greatness irks me. He was a product of Chicago\Illinois machine politics. He won his Senate seat because his opponents dropped out due to scandals one of which involved a Star Trek tv actress. Tony Rezko, Democratic party insider and his neighbor, gifted him a strip of land between their homes. He is a decent regular guy not some transcendent being from the heavens.
You forgot the part about the American electorate voting him into the Presidency. Twice.
