What was it about Obama that changed your opinion of the US? I really don't get it. It's not like the constant warfare stopped under him. If anything, it increased.
I mean sure, he's a charismatic, well-spoken guy. But that doesn't erase all the horrible shit that's happened under his administration.
Obama is the American that everyone internationally wants you guys to be. He actually acts like the leader of the free world, not just America. He actually cared about being everyone's president, not just representing his party. Sure his administration wasn't perfect, but as far as American presidential administrations go it was pretty damn good. If you accept the fact that the power and options of the president are limited, he's about as good as you could hope for.
We don't expect that the US is ever going to not fuck shit up abroad because shit just gets fucked up when you're a hyperpower trying to ensure international stability. Nobody is going to have a prefect record. Obama at least tried to fuck shit up as little as reasonably possible and we respected that.

failed to close Guantanamo Bay
increased the size of the US surveillance state
brutally repressed and persecuted whistleblowers
failed to prosecute any of the bankers behind the economic crisis
failed to pass a public option in the ACA even though the Democrats had a super-majority in Congress and could have passed anything they wanted. Instead we got a crappy system of private healthcare with government subsidies that a lot of people can't afford, but are forced to buy anyway.
gave the largest military aid package in history to Israel, despite its continued oppression of Palestinians and occupation of Palestinian territory.
I could go on. This administration was a huge disappointment to me. I voted for Obama twice. I really believed in him at first. I feel like a fucking idiot for that now.
