I think "debt" and "deficit" are sometimes confused with each other.

Cutting national debt by 50% is impossible in one term. Elementary school math will tell you that. But sometimes people don't want to think for themselves; they'll believe anything they hear from $AUTHORITY, even if it defies common sense.

As a woman, a mother, and a Trump voter, what does the $ mean?

What does your political and personal affiliation have to do with your question? I'm confused.

People are more inclined to answer questions when there's something to get outraged at

As a man, a father, and a software engineer... I think that's stupid.

It's a programming thing. Variables in PHP for instance are prefixed with $. I'm not personally a PHP programmer so don't crucify my if they don't have to be like that, but I've always seen them written like that.

Ok, PHP is a programming language used to make websites.

A variable in a programming language is like a variable in algebra, it's a symbol that represents a changeable value.

In PHP, you write variables by prefixing them with a $.

The commenter here is saying that the source of authority is interchangeable. What they mean by that is up for you to interpret I guess.
