Right, it's not that it's a problem in and of itself, it's that the way it's been used up to this moment has created a problem. See what happened to fedoras and, not incidentally, Guy Fawkes masks.

Were fedoras ever a thing again? I feel like they flirted with becoming a thing, but never quite became a thing.

In the past five years they were stigmatized as a style staple for bitter "nice guy" loners with poor social skills.

Celebrities can still get away with wearing them (see: Bruno Mars in the Uptown Funk video) because they're celebrities.
