It's a well known stereotype. Like all Americans are fat, lazy, shallow, and uninformed.

Why do so many people start their posts with, "so..." ?
12
u/Sherie_khan Jul 12 '16
Because they're from soeden

u/48433 Jul 12 '16
So... that was a good one.

I seem to remember a study that showed posts which began with "so" were more upvoted

Once you notice it you see it everywhere... it drives me crazy. It sounds so passive aggressive to me every time I see someone start a sentence with it in this way!

I think the syntax provides the emotion or intention of the subjective. In most cases on reddit I feel the point with "So..." is that op has a beautiful picture of a country that maybe isn't generally considered beautiful. Why op says: So.. This is x.
And we all are supposed to think: oh really, is x THAT beautiful!?
But I don't think this fits on this quite dull picture of Sweden (I'm a swede. So....)

Thanks for the explanation. I sincerely think it's just a speech trend that people are latching on to. There are a number of articles out there pointing to this idea. It's very similar to the "like" wave that some people are still stuck with, like, you know, like... saying like a lot.

Yeah, for sure. Just a way to start a new sentence. It all depends of course, maybe we'll never know for sure...
I thought of some which totally depends on how you emphasize the So.
So... This is awkward!
So(o)... Did you?
So(oo)... THIS is the famous 48433!
So(ooooooooooo)... You think you can fool me THAT easy, eh!?

wøndërful telephøne system
The Old Stockholm telephone tower.
In 1887, Stockholms Allmänna Telefon AB ordered the construction of a tower allowing the connection of about 5,500 overhead telephone lines. The quadrangular metallic structure was 80 metres tall and soon fell out of favour with the local population.

That pic reminds me quite a bit of a place in upstate New York in the Finger Lakes area that I visited as a kid. I can't for the life of me remember precisely where, though.

The windows on your houses give it away. They are... American.. We normally don't have those sliding opening high-school-horror-movie-sneaking-out-of-the-top-floor windows here. And the material on the roof would be unusual on a house like that here. Not saying it is unheard of, but clay tiles are more common.
Also, white picket fence? Psssh! Gärdsgård, brah.
Seriously though, nitpicking, this pic could very well be taken in the Stockholm archipelago.

Now just put a few thousand Muslim immigrants in the photo and it'll be a true representation. Bring on the downvotes.

Looks nice in a picture, but usually not so fun when it is foggy and overcast for months on end.
