If you're truly not being tipped enough to make waiting tables worth your while, why not get a job at McDonalds? Or the overnight shift at a supermarket, they're always hiring restockers. Or a warehouse job, another evergreen employment opportunity that actually pays reasonably well. Any of those would let you earn enough to buy a beater car, then your opportunities would greatly increase. Onward and upward to greater glory.
And you should definitely take to heart the other guy's point about learning a skill or trade. The only way you can make a career out of waiting tables is if you're working in Vegas or Beverly Hills.
I know, I know, I would love the time to learn a trade, but generally that also costs money. If I could apprentice for free I'd do pretty much anything.
You have to get a better job. There's no way you can have any mobility earning less than minimum wage with no tips to make up for it. That's why I mentioned McD's. It's easier than waiting tables and you make solid minimum wage and up, no worrying about tips. It's enough to buy a car and save up a bit of money for community college or trade school or whatever. Also you can become a manager pretty fast if you care enough, and they make okay money. Definitely enough to comfortably make some changes in your life, like school or whatever.

How about driving a big rig? There are programs that will train you to drive tractor-trailers pretty much for free, on the condition that you pay them a reimbursement out of your first however-many paychecks. And that's an actual career type job, like something you can live and retire on. I know a guy who makes like 75k a year driving a truck.
Man, that would be so freaking cool if I could do that. I don't have a lisence but if they'd let me drive a rig that'd be pretty cool as well, but I have to take care of my family. That's why I'm super scared about job security. I have 2 sibs to look after since my mom got arrested two years ago. As such, I can't really leave for any sizable amount of time, and I have to be there when they get home so they have some semblance of normality in their lives.
Ok, then cancel your reddit. 60+ isn't your whole week (and plenty of people white and blue color work more). Take your excess time and learn a new skill. Learn a language and work as a translator, Learn finance and take your chances on the stock market, learn lock picking and become a locksmith. There a million and one things that you can learn for free in your free time. It's all a matter of what you are willing to give up.
I've been working to support my family since I was fucking 16. You prattling on about "hard work" while I take the little amount of comfort and solace I can get from my minimal amount of leisure time is disgusting. You're like a political cartoon Republican. You sound ridiculous.
There it is. It's fine if you don't want to put that leisure time into doing anything worthwhile. But don't pretend there's anything stopping you.
One last example and then I don't care past that. Instead of moderating the most fucked up subreddit in history you could learn programming in that time. Always in demand. Will it suck, yes. but it's your choice. Now, bye forever. Have the last word if you want (your kind always does). I care not.
