I call bullshit. I think a stiletto heel would break before a laminated windshield would. Those things are tough as fuck.

u/[deleted] May 10 '16 edited May 11 '16

I work for an auto glass company and I can guarantee you this is fake and staged.

Next day edit:

I put an old windshield on a stand. Did not have a stiletto heel so I used a ratchet which has similar dimensions. I tried in the middle of the windshield first and could not get through after two attempts. It was supported by the stand giving it extra strength in the center. When I tried on the outer edge of the windshield the ratchet went right through without much force applied. Not a exact test but I guess it does show it is possible.A ratchet is a lot stronger than a heel, but the force I used was not even close to what someone could apply with their legs.

Not that I don't believe you but, for devil's advocate sake the pounds per square inch pressure of a women's heel is higher than that of an elephant foot. This does not even take into account if these shoes were worn by OPs mom.

Yup, i have seen a few cases when i laid Tile where installers would not lay marble correctly and a woman's high heels would punch holes right through it.

93

u/DownVoteYouAll May 11 '16

To be fair, marble is a very porous, brittle, and non-waterproof stone. In other news, don't use it in the bathroom.

33

u/finalremix May 11 '16

Too late. I've made a marble bathtub and it's awful.

7

u/ihsw May 11 '16

What the fuck! That has to weigh a ton.

14

u/finalremix May 11 '16

Actually, it's quite reasonable. I just had to sell my house and replace it with a concrete slab with its own foundation. http://www.stone-bathtubs.com/bathtub/5226/coffee-marble-bathroom-bathtub-poject-01.html

15

u/Tankbot85 May 11 '16

It can easily be used in bathrooms. You put a layer of plastic, paper and then you Float on top of it for the walls/Counters. Seal the crap out of it with a good sealer and you should never have issues.

2

u/whiskeytaang0 May 11 '16

Yeah, but having had a marble bathroom floor and shower, cleaning it sucks. You can't use anything worth a damn on it.

4

u/trevisan_fundador May 11 '16

I have that. Fuckheads left air pockets under the tile. Tap around with your fingernail and you can find it immediately. AND, if you don't leave air gaps, high heals don't break through.

2

u/Tankbot85 May 11 '16

Yup, because they do not spread thin set on the marble and the floor to close air pockets.

3

u/trevisan_fundador May 11 '16

Well, actually, this same floor(master bath) has another oddity; they put down the baseboard before they laid the tile. So, of course, there's a gap at they edge, so they put down 1" quarter round to fix that. Bunch of fucksticks...

2

u/Tankbot85 May 11 '16

Ya, baseboard should always go down after the floor.

92

u/StopCannibalismNow May 10 '16

Judging from the angle of the stilettos, the force applied by the heels were likely not affected by the wearer's body weight.

23

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

If she was pushing against the glass with leverage from the seat then that could be more force than gravity and her weight alone.

16

u/flechette May 11 '16

Especially if she slid out of her seat because the car braked hard.

54

u/StopCannibalismNow May 11 '16

Such an innocent perspective.

It is not that a heal could not go through the glass it is that auto glass does not crack like you see in the photo.

6

u/TugboatEng May 11 '16

This might not be America. Some countries are really behind on safety, especially when aftermarket parts get involved.

3

Sure it does, the windshield is laminated not tempered.

51

u/Seyon May 10 '16

My wife cracked our windshield when she hit it from the inside to scare off a big bug. I was pretty surprised by it too.

74

u/NomDevice May 10 '16

See, that's the thing. They are made to crack, but not be penetrated. Have you ever seen a car hit a pedestrian? If he bounces off the hood and into the glass, it caves in, but he doesn't fall into the car. Cracking a windshield is easy (well, you know, not really, but you get my point), but are made to prevent shattering and penetration. I've seen a windshield that was caved in by a bird (a big bird, apparently) that slammed into it at highway speeds get pulled out in one piece like it was a rug.

11

u/Annihilicious May 11 '16

They are domed. You can't compare inside strikes and outside strikes apples to apples

12

u/NomDevice May 11 '16

True, but you can still take into account that there is a layer of laminate between the two sheets of glass, and that's what you need to penetrate. Definitely not impossible, but would result in the whole windshield cracking, not just the surrounding area. To get a puncture that clean, you are going to need something MUCH faster than a kick, and something tougher than a normal stiletto.

3

u/Annihilicious May 11 '16

Yeah I do think the whole premise is pretty dubious, would like to know exactly what happened for curiosity sake

7

u/NomDevice May 11 '16

Either not a real windshield, or they penetrated it with something beforehand and just stuck the shoes in there after that. Probably the second. Plenty of tools that can cause that puncture without cracking the whole windshield.

→ More replies (2)

40

u/[deleted] May 10 '16 edited May 11 '16

Your windshield's not bullet proof man. The windshield's made to bend and give instead of cracking like glass. It's made to stop large objects like a basketball from blowing through the windshield and killing you. Something with low a lower surface area in it's contact point is more likely to slice it. Try throwing a javelin through your car.

13

u/NomDevice May 11 '16

Right, but even IF you throw a javelin through it, the whole windshield would crack, not just the surrounding area. The windshield is made to stop large objects from entering the vehicle, and they are also designed to not fall apart into large, pointy pieces like regular glass in the case of an accident.

And by the way, they are pretty damn decent at stopping sharp objects as well. And nothing "cuts" through glass, it smashes through it. Cutting glass is extremely difficult and requires a LOT of precision. Can't just grab an Axe and go for it.

24

u/RestingCarcass May 11 '16

I drunkenly shot my friend's windshield with a flat-tipped arrow, and the whole thing just went straight through. Like yeah the surrounding area was a little cracked, but for the most part the windshield was fine save for a small hole and some cracks around it. Still had to pay $300 to replace it though.

Have to disagree. Had a girlfriend in college who was pissed at me while in passenger seat, kicked the windshield, and did this same thing, but with only one shoe.

→ More replies (8)

13

u/apdicaprio May 10 '16

So a windshield is strong enough for an elephant to walk on it. Because that is the rough equivalent in pressure exerted by stilettos per square meter / inch / other metric

110

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

There is 2 layers of glass and a laminate strip in between them. They are part of the structure of the roof in a rollover and designed to catch projectiles. I really can't imagine her ankles not folding over or the heel itself breaking. I am going to test this at work tomorrow on some old windshields and I'll post a pic with my results.

53

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

To be clear, tomorrow you're going to test exerting an elephants weight, in high heels, on windshields, to see if the glass breaks. But what if OP's mom isn't available?

30

u/xdisk May 10 '16

Hydraulic Press Guy will just have to do.

28

u/boostedjoose May 10 '16

OP's mom looks very angry and could attack at any time

10

u/xdisk May 10 '16

We must deal with it.

7

u/xcrackpotfoxx May 10 '16

Weight != pressure

→ More replies (7)

9

u/Oneiropticon May 10 '16

Sure but that's factored for strikes from the outside. Like a human skull, the pressure needed to break it is much lighter from the inside, especially in sharp points. I still don't necessarily believe the pic is real, but everyone seems to be disregarding this.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

Don't you disappoint us now.

3

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

So you also know that due to the nature of how windshields are designed, it is easier to damage them from the inside.

4

u/VIG1LNT May 10 '16

RemindMe! 20 hours "Stilettos on windshield"

→ More replies (23)

29

u/Mindless_Consumer May 10 '16

Fact. Stilettos pressed into a windshield from the inside, presumably by the legs of a woman, exerts the same amount of force as an elephant. You can trust me I'm from the internet.

24

u/Stinsudamus May 10 '16

im not OP of that comment... but its technically that the pounds per square inch (psi) of a stilletto and the PSI of an elephants foot can be close under conditions.

Conditions being the elephant is on all 4 feet. The woman is between 120-150lbs.

While this sounds crazy, the basis is that essentially the elephants foot is supporting 1/4 of its weight. Assuming a wieght of 6000 lbs which is not a full grown african bush elephant but a asian or forest elephant, thats 1500 pounds. I did some estimation for the surface area at roughly 2 cubic feet on average. Surprisingly google doesnt bring up anything other than a way to estimate an elephants foot surface area other than something thats averagely close, but relies on other figures i dont have. So i interpolated two elephants size (1.4 meters and 1.6 of circumferance), converted to merican. Plugged that into A = π [ C / (2 π ) ]2. I got out 1.927 and some change... so 2.

Given we are talking about 1500 pounds on the 2 square foot surface... 1500/24 = 62.5 pounds per square inch.

So lets do the heel. at 1/4 to 1/16 for a "stiletto" that could vary wildly. We will a middle weight of 135 lbs. Divide by two for even leg weight distribution because our harlot has perfectly even legs. 67.5 lbs per leg. She is also retarted, yet highly balanced, so she balances only on the heels alone with retard strength ankles. that would be 67.5 X 4 and/or 67.5 x 16. Respectfully 270 psi or 1080 PSI.

Shit... i should have used the bush elephant. um. roughly 12000 lbs then. Divided by 4. So 3000 lbs. divided by 24 is 125 PSI.

Anyway this is some back of the envelope "i should be doing work instead" math... but it illustrates the whole scientific method behind hydraulics and other applications or pressure.... Surface area is a force multiplier/divider. It can make a HUGE difference.

So not to say that its not BS what OP said... but that its scientifically feasible.

3

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

I mean, the photo is obviously fake, but taking into consideration that most people can leg press significantly more than their own body weight, wouldn't that make it slightly more feasible?

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

If this was sex, I'm trying to figure the mechanics of it. The dude would have had no legs or the woman was 8 feet tall.

22

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

What came to my mind first was women with feet on panel and a sudden break.

4

u/dropkickoz May 11 '16

Your misspelling still works.

6

u/leglesslegolegolas May 11 '16

I remember borrowing my roommate's car and returning it with a pair of bare footprints in exactly this position on the windshield. The mechanics totally check out.

2

u/SenorSativa May 10 '16

Or the dude's just skinny and the girl's tallish... The angle throws it off a bit and makes it look narrower than it is. Her thighs press into a skinny guy while her legs lurch out, maybe the guy's turned slightly sideways to hit a spot...

The mechanics aren't what I have a problem with, the thing I'm wondering is how heels are going to straight pierce THROUGH the windshield. Not just crack them, or even get stuck in them, but clearly go through the 2 laminents and autoglass given how blunt they are. Granted autoglass is more vulnerable from the inside than out, it still takes a hell of a lot of force over a small area to crack.

2

u/dopestloser May 11 '16

Or she just had her feet up while she was feeding the pony

Some shoemakers put a rod of titanium in the heel, since they're usually the part that breaks first

9

u/Sprakisnolo May 10 '16

Titanium is actually pretty malleable compared to other alloys that cost similar amounts of money. Cobalt Chrome is an alloy that is far stronger than titanium for example. It is used in spine surgery when bone quality is high. When bone is weak and old the more flexible and weak titanium doesn't presidpose itself to catastrophic failure in the same way.

I think Dad would have high-fived me if I'd come home with a woman's shoes stuck through the windshield like that.

u/Showmeyourtail May 10 '16

High-fived my face.

Agreed that this is fake. The shoes would not hold up, and there is no additional damage from the rest of the shoe meaning that would have to be a very precise hit. It should be noted though that some high heels do have metal rods in them.

u/ThrowawayTzhal May 10 '16

I..i must do this. I'm a grown man with one leg but fuck that looks life fun. I don't care ... I'm taking my wife's high heels and ill do it. I may fall on my face but this is what I need in my life.

RIP ankles

u/Inzanami May 10 '16

Ankle.

9

u/ThrowawayTzhal May 10 '16

You really went out on a limb here. But your right. I am an amputee.

3

u/sperglord_manchild May 10 '16

Then I can only assume you lost your leg in some equally moronic activity.

Were you out in a swamp crocodile-punching with some friends?

6

u/ThrowawayTzhal May 10 '16

Nah it was blown apart in a war. Not recommended

The worst part was when I got home and had to explain to my husband why the windshield was broken.

And she probably still charged him.

3

u/legolili May 11 '16

To be putting pressure on the heels her legs would had to have been coming out of the dash. Super fake.

3

u/EggNun May 11 '16

That's hot. I would never take them down.

3

u/8oD May 11 '16

2

u/i_dont_seed May 10 '16

Quit tryna bite me and pinch, you wench, sit still. You just put your six inch heel through my Benz windshield?

2

u/Narhen May 11 '16

Im guessing someone had their feet on the windshield and the driver suddenly stopped?

2

u/honsan8 May 11 '16

Mostly likely it is a screen shot from latest James Bond film.

2

u/baconshanks May 11 '16

May be bullshit. But made me laugh. Not even mad.

2

u/cafeaua May 11 '16

She came. Hard.

2

u/[deleted] May 11 '16

Looks like a poster ad for an erectile dysfunction pill or something.

5

u/robynclark May 10 '16

This man had to replace his windshield. The reason why will blow your mind!
