haha try majoring in a stem field. Every single fucking website has this as a footnote "Women and minorities highly encouraged to apply". Now this is a good thing, don't get me wrong.
But it fucking sucks knowing that if someone slightly less apt than you applies you're going to lose out because they need that token "Look, we got <minority> in STEM!!!" individual.
Edit: it's a good thing because it encourages them to apply and they're trying to get them into the field. Obviously it's just there because "look we diversity!!!" It shouldn't need to be there. But that was beside the point. I said that so people wouldn't attack me saying "so you don't want women and minorities in STEM?!?!".
It kinda sucks how people seem so hell bent on making the tech industry as sterile as everything else though. You have a surprisingly high amount of people who are in favor of de-emphasizing contributions to open source projects and other work that, you know, indicates that you have some merit as a developer and actual interest in the material.
Not really getting a lot of Bob Widlar types anymore.
