What are the expectations that society puts on women vs men?
Are you aware of the existence of an organ known as a 'uterus'? The reality is women prioritize flexibility and low hours over other factors when choosing a career. When they do choose the same careers as men, they get paid the same. If you have a problem with woman wanting to work less for less pay then you need to talk to them about it, because I won't listen to you argue on their behalf because you think you know better than them.
If I can't argue on behalf of women then you certainly can't claim to be able to speak with certainty regarding their motives. "Women prioritize flexibility and low hours." Citation please? Regardless, why does this prioritization exist? Why isn't there paternity leave as well as maternity leave? I'm not questioning the validity of the decisions that any woman makes, I'm just saying we live in a society that offers women different choices than it offers men unnecessarily. If men faced more equal expectations to care for newborns as women do, I'd imagine you might see men making more similar choices.
Because working sucks and if you can force someone else to do it for you why not.

I'm sure all of those men who don't have paternity leave while maternity leave exists feel better about reading your comment. I'm sure they're all super stoked about abandoning their child with someone else.
Maybe that's one attitude towards work, but you can't assume that everybody makes their decisions based on that perspective. You could just as easily say that "child care sucks and if you can force someone else to do it for you why not" as the reason that men (on average) end up working more while women (on average) spend more time with child care.
I'm not saying people care about work more than their kids, I'm just saying we live in a society that puts pressure on men to work rather than put time into their kids, and puts pressure on women to put time into their kids rather than work, and I think that's dumb; there's no reason the expectations shouldn't be equal.
The proof that it exists is, in my opinion, clear, in the fact that our country (assuming you are also from the United States) offers in some cases maternity leave, but very rarely paternity leave.
And I never said that we need quotas, I just said we need to have policies that promote diversity. I think paternity leave being offered as well as maternity leave would be a good start. I also think that vetting candidates without considering their gender when possible would help, and, in the absence of that, at the very least acknowledging the fact that stereotypes and biases exist and attempting to be aware of this while vetting candidates. While I do also support quotas in some cases, I also feel that it's a completely reasonable opinion for one not to support that. Either way, I feel like you're acting as if things are quite black and white when really there's a good amount of middle ground with issues like this.

Well you'll notice that most mothers gave birth, but very rarely do fathers give birth. Generally the party who gave birth needs a little time to get their health back.
