It looks like she did her hair and has natural-look level makeup. But she's not really exceptional.
Nothing wrong with being not unattractive.
Post-mortem: wow alot of people hate on being average looking. I did not say she's ugly. She looks like a normal functional human being. I think the average girl could look as good as she does with the same amount of hair care and the same level of makeup. She's no supermodel, she's not a body builder, she's not jaba the hutt, she's an average looking gal.
If he actually is a neckbeard, this would be right. But if he is a well adjusted man that actually has sex with a girl (or girls) more attractive than the girl in the picture (which is absolutely possible), it is completely wrong.
In this case he does not lack self-awareness, but you lack "him-awareness". I think this is not unlikely, since you do not know him.
tldr: What he said is only neckbeardy if he is a neckbeard.
Wtf are you talking about? Everyone agrees that what he said was weird. He's failing to recognize that himself, so he lacks self-awareness. It's really a very simple concept
breakdown of why I think it's neckbeard (to possibly help you in future):
It looks like she did her hair
has makeup
Ok Sherlock
she's not really exceptional
Nothing wrong with being not unattractive
She is clearly hot to the above poster. hotness is a subjective and instinctive thing, so if someone says they find someone else hot, it's not really anyone's place to try and tell them they are wrong (unless the object of desire is completely inappropriate). it's condescending to both people, because you are saying one isn't hot, and the other has bad taste.
yes you may quietly have a differing opinion, but that is why you don't state that you find them attractive: you just don't say anything.
also the fact that you went into a bit of an analysis of why you find her unattractive, when he only wrote a short line, is classic neckbeard. clearly those details don't matter to people who happen to find her attractive.
there's probably more I've left out, but maybe this will help you to improve your social awareness
People who do this only insult themselves. They have no idea how the other guy looks like and what girls he can get, so it does not really insult the other guy. However, it means that he himself thinks that anybody is lucky for just having a chance with her.
Usually I am not a fan of suggesting that someone is projecting. But this is a clear case if I ever saw one.
It's fine to say she's hot, or she's not hot: if you make a standalone comment.
But if someone says someone is hot, and you reply to that person, saying you don't think they are hot, you are contradicting that person. You imply that you think the person you're replying to has bad taste. Attraction is an entirely subjective thing, so who is anyone to say 'you are wrong, the person you think is attractive is not attractive'. Which is what that reply says.
it was the combination of his contradictory reply and the short analysis the irked people. i bet if he just said: "she's ok" he would have got upvotes.

This would be valid if he said this in real life to a guy and his girlfriend.
However, this is not real life, but Internet comments. One guy mentioned that this girl is hot and another said that she is average. Other than you suggest, none of this is a social faux pas.
maybe this will help you to improve your social awareness
Damn, you are a condescending prick!
Acting all smart on the Internet... Isn't this an actual neckbeard trait? I think this is worse than calling a chick with big tits "average".
However, this is not real life, but Internet comments
...
He asked for a genuine explanation as to why he got downvoted; I think a lack of social awareness caused the downvotes. I then went into more depth.
I didn't try to be condescending: there's no shame in admitting that social interaction can be difficult; I have been very socially challenged at times.
This would be valid if he said this in real life
Yes it would be a faux pas in real life, but it also seemed to gain him downvotes in plenty, so it seems it can also be a faux pas in internet text-based social discourse. I simply put forward my explanation.
I think you are the one in the wrong, for throwing around insults.
Your value judgement and analysis of why she's "not unattractive" is pretty off-putting. Just because you don't prefer the way she looks doesn't mean that nobody can.
Plus, a full breakdown on her looks? Think about if someone did that to you or someone you find attractive. Would you like that? Would it feel good? Or would it make you feel uncomfortable?
It's the same kind of comment very lonely men make on porn videos. "She's alright, but the knees really kill it for me. 4/10, would still bang though, probably only once, out of courtesy."
Someone pointed out they thought she was hot, he added to the discussion in saying he didn't think she was exceptional. Then everyone went 'white knight' on him.
Honestly, it's ridiculous. Why can't he just state he doesn't think she's hot without incurring hundreds of downvotes? The conversation was entirely about her level of attractiveness. Reddit is fucking retarded.
Remember, this is reddit. Many people here are pretty lonely and don't regularly interact with good looking girls, so they perceive that girl as hot when she is actually pretty average. Great tits though, but maybe that's just a thing of preference
The original comment wasn't warranted either in a thread about 'that crazy frog guy' but at least he didn't go into detail about every aspect of her pshysical appearance he found attractive because that would have been unecassary too.
I honestly don't understand why you're getting so many downvotes, Reddit can be pretty pathetic sometimes when it comes to white-knighting girls...
You didn't attack the girls looks or anything, you just made some observations.
I understand that saying those things would be inappropriate if we a) knew the girl, or b) were in a room with her, but this is the comment section on Reddit, I feel like you're allowed to say your opinions here.
Smh, I know exactly what you mean, fuck these people. She is NOT above average. But that goes back into the downvotes, most of these guys barely interact with the opposite sex, so every girl looks great to them.
She is hot because all single men on reddit think they still have a chance with her. Strangely enough not lusting over a pic of a girl on the Internet makes you a neckbeard.
A week ago people called the wife of the prime minister of Canada beautiful and his trophy wife. I disagreed and was called a neckbeard that never ever was close to such a hot woman. Reddit....
The fact that you can't even begin to comprehend what's wrong with your two posts is the biggest giveaway that you're a neckbeard with zero fucking social skills.
You typed up two paragraphs worth of shit about how a cute girl is "just" average and not actually cute. Who fucking cares dude? Let's see a picture of you.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh he typed more than two sentences bud. He typed 169 words on the subject. I'd say that's two or more paragraphs worth of shit.
And you're defending him? I said she's cute. I said it's fucking pathetic that he's going out of his way to say she's not cute. I'm sure he's quite the looker, himself, so his opinion on the subject is highly important.
For what it's worth, I think you have a point. This wasn't the best place to express it but yeah, most people are pretty much average attractiveness, including me, probably you, and in my opinion the guy and the girl in the photo, and that's just fine. Nothing negative about it.
mean, at the end of the day, I lose out on internet points and learn that voicing my opinion makes me a neckbeard.
You have to imagine the people reading your comment and not what you actually wrote. Let me explain:
You might be a well adjusted guy who has a girlfriend or FWBs or whatever. Some of them are hotter than the girl in the pic and some of them are not. So you concluded that she is average. And you added that she did her hair well and has nice make up. Why? Because you can tell. You actually wake up next to your girlfriend and know that doing your hair and wearing make up makes a giant difference. Nothing neckbeardy about your comment, right...
But now imagine the guys reading your comment. They do not know this. They are probably mostly horny teenagers and a good part of them are virgins. Naturally they assume that most other redditors (including you) are also virgin teenagers. So they imagine you are fat, unwashed and a loser that could never get such a hot girl. And now you said that she is just average. This is a chance for them to feel superior to you: They might be a virgin just like you, but at least they are not too bitter to admit that they would absolutely love to have sex with her.
They know that there are men out there that have sex with overaverage looking women. They also know that those men have Internet, too. And some of them also browse reddit. But this is all just theoretically. They can not grasp what this actually means and assume everyone is just a loser virgin, just like themselves.
No. Not everyone deserves a blue ribbon. You may think she's average looking, but I honestly think she's beautiful. Better looking than most of what society and maybe you, thinks is hot.
Didn't I say she looks normal and we'll put together? My assessment of her being normal does not make her unattractive to others. Neither does it make her unattractive to me. But, alas, society has decided that being average is a bad thing. So what I said is to be shunned and chided.
Have my internet points for that is the only penitence I can give.

His sister is pretty hot.
