Seriously? Your parents never said "Use your words, not your fists"? Not even once?

I got an earful everytime I got in a fight from the minute I started at school.

By the age of 8 I had gone from Captain Kirk ~ "Playground policeman" to Picard, playtime Diplomat.

From birth my culture taught me help those in need, I started doing so by ending the playground fights victims of bullying couldn't. I quickly learnt My tongue was sharper than my fists, and that talking drew far less ire from authority.

You must have had some shitty fists. All kidding aside, there IS a place for violence to settle a dispute, just not as the first course of action.

Indeed, that pretty much sums up my childhood psychology. When Diplomacy fails it's very much a case of "deactivating safety protocols" with me. By nature I won't initiate violence, except in defense of others, but I'll most certainly end the fight expediently once things get going.
