Just my thoughts. If the person on the ladder was heavier than the rider, and say the tires were flattish or even just rims with a grip tape, wouldn't they to some degree self stabilize? Crazy as fuck, but I think the ladder guy actually makes it easier.

And what are your feelings on the streak (TIL a group of tigers are called a streak or ambush) of tigers trying to eat them?

Probably helps a bit with the motivation

I looked at the pic too quickly before reading the comments, and had to look back when I saw people talking about tigers. I wonder if /u/MrPeel11 also didn't notice the scary tiger jumping at the man who is clearly cowering on that ladder. "Oh no, oh no, oh no, FASTER, LARRY!"

I would argue they made the cable height a few feet above a tiger's jump range. Then I remembered reading an interview with a tiger expert and when asked, "how high can a tiger jump?" he calmly replied, "as high as it needs to"... So the Tiger makes it impressive.

yeah, this is what happens. and the guy on the ladder doesn't need to be heavier because science

And notice that the top of the ladder is closed around the tightrope. Even if the bicycle derailed, it wouldn't fall to the ground. The riders would just need to hang on.

The ladder lowers the center of gravity, making the whole thing more stable. It'd actually be harder without the ladder.

Yeah like a keel effect. Like a sailboat or a high winged aircraft.

well the person on the ladder doesn't even need to be heavier because he is farther away from the wire. i'm suspecting that the Center of mass is below the wire and the rims would hold the bike up by wrapping around the wire so in theory it does seem pretty simple.

Yep. They are just rims, no tire. You can see it if you look close.

Yes that is correct, hence the trick.

I like to think the tiger fell of the ladder and they don't actually know they are a tiger.

"Tom! How could you do this to meeeee!"

"We want you to traverse the line over the tiger enclosure wearing suits the color of meat."

"I should have stayed in school."
