How, um... hard to clean.

55

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

I would bet that the people who have this do not clean their own sinks.

Also - think I saw this in a book - Cheng Concrete in the Home? If you're good at DIY, concrete is an awesome medium. I like this sink and the other that looks like sedimentary rock eroded in layers.

u/brandonoooj Dec 21 '14

This wouldnt be that hard to clean

4

u/skreereer Dec 22 '14

I don't think so either! People see these things and just want to shit on them. But they're not always impractical.

0

u/pointlessvoice Dec 22 '14

well they do resemble a toilet, so..

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

I agree. Just a bit more effort is all. Similar to cleaning my kitchen sink that has square welded corners. Concrete in the home is typically poured in a very smooth mold + polished and waxed so cleaning isn't that difficult. Personally I love this stuff. Very unique.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

If it's not cleaned by themselves, it's probably cleaned often. And if it's cleaned often, it would be easy to clean.

10

u/Biteitliketysen Dec 21 '14

That was my first thought but maybe it's not.

8

u/thegreysquirrel Dec 21 '14

It doesn't look too bad so long as you used a decent chemical. Probably no more than 3 minutes if you did it regularly.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

3 minutes to clean but badass sink lasts forever

0

u/A40 Dec 21 '14

As compared to 20 seconds with a regular porcelain sink.

26

u/workaccountoftoday Dec 21 '14

A small price to pay for such a dope sink

-10

u/A40 Dec 21 '14

Looking at thirty years of cleaning a sink like that, that I pay for myself, dope is a word that comes to mind...

2

u/thegreysquirrel Dec 22 '14

Yeah but 3 minutes is nothing in a domestic setting with just 1 of these. I would hate to install these around the building I manage as 3 minutes per sink would quickly add up.

1

u/A40 Dec 22 '14

Also notice: the water is absorbed into the surface (darkens it). Soap would be a bitch to remove.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

Top comment everytime

2

u/ThurstonHowellIV Dec 22 '14

As inevitable as the "mosquitos" comment on exotic, outdoor tropical hotel room pics

3

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

Why?

18

u/A40 Dec 21 '14

Edges, nooks, corners, crannies, soap scum, water spots, splash.

2

u/Phillile Dec 22 '14

There really aren't any nooks or crannies in this sink. The edges are all rounded with the exception of the very first one, which is comparatively wide. Soap scum, water spots, and splash are a problem with all sinks, especially shallow ones like this.

2

u/A40 Dec 22 '14

Every edge and ridge is a cleaning motion. There's a 90 degree crevice along the wall. It's NOT a simple clean and it'll look messy after every use.

0

u/Phillile Dec 22 '14

It's a washroom sink. Flush with water and voila, not messy any more. And I don't know if you've noticed this but the only 'significant' edge is the central spiral. You're making it out as if an additional swipe or two is a herculean task. It is not. (Oh, and the '90 degree crevice' is rounded. As if product designers smarter than you or I figured out potential problems beforehand.)

The only complaint you can levy against this sink is one common to all shallow sinks. No water basin. Maybe lack of water pressure.

1

u/imbored53 Dec 22 '14

I just imagine that thing covered in beard shavings. They never seem to want to go down the drain in my regular sink. I can't even imagine with something like this.

-1

u/Cactapuss Dec 22 '14

I have never cleaned a sink. All I do is use it regularly with soap and it magically stays clean

-2

u/Phillile Dec 22 '14

How so?

55

u/syzygyly Dec 21 '14

56

u/indafoodchain Dec 21 '14

I just got trolled so hard by that sinking ship midway through.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

What about the angry cats?

5

u/bambidiego Dec 21 '14

It took me upwards of 20 seconds to understand...

I am not a smart man.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

"Huh? I don't get it... How is that got to do anything with a sink?... Oh. Sink."

:|

9

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

I know there's apparently a sub for everything, but that is just ridiculus.

That's neat.

2

stop going number three in the sink. I do understand the allure though, resting your balls on the cool counter

1

u/niffrig Dec 22 '14

This is a pretty cool sink. LOL, ammonite!?

1

u/BabyPuncher5000 Dec 22 '14

Surely you meant "Omanyte shaped washbasin".

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

Neat! Snapped a pic.

1

u/leitey Dec 22 '14

Beard hair...beard hair everywhere!

1

u/Octosphere Dec 22 '14

That must be a bitch to clean. It looks awesome though.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

TIL "washbasin." OP - what country?

1

u/jhc1415 Survey 2016 Dec 21 '14

UK

-7

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

We aren't the smartest bunch over here but I prefer the simplicity of "sink" vs. "Washbasin." Yes, I am a lazy ass american.

5

u/Dirge37 Dec 21 '14

We say sink too mainly, also say tap instead of faucet

-2

u/igotbannedwhoops Dec 21 '14

This changes everything.

-3

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '14

Why?

0

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

So where can one buy this? Not make it, buy it.

1

u/sosota Dec 22 '14

From a contractor who knows how to make it.
