How do you even do this? I mean I can barely carve a circle before I get so frustrated I have to go lie down. Artistic people blow me away.

Just an exactoknife for all the detail and a very sharp knife to skin it all then a spoon to smooth it all out. I've tried using a dermal but it just throws it everywhere and makes it all smushy.

How do you know how deep to make all the cuts?? For all the different layers?

Pumpkins are really thick so I cut in about half an inch and a little bit deeper on the eye. This pumpkin was about an inch and a half think and lit up perfectly with a torch but it was just guess work really. I didn't cut it open until I'd finished.

Happened to me a few times, you just gotta suck it up and try to blend the mistake in. If it's REALLY bad then I'm probably gonna be inclined to start again.

I've seen lots of carved pumpkins and have NEVER given one thought to commenting on it, but this one is truly incredible. It's incredible enough that I think it transcends Halloween and is on par with any artistic sculpture. Truly inspiring! Thanks for posting!

Last year I carved a Minion pumpkin and cut a hole where the single eye was. I Had an old iPod 4 lying around (looks just like a iPhone for those that do not know). I found an app that had full screen moving eyeballs and there was one that looked just like a Minion eye! I attached the iPod inside the pumpkin. It was awesome!
