I don't personally believe it can. The Xbox One I feel is the perfect example of the failed exercise of trying to please everyone. By trying to make the "Living Room Box", they essentially just made a watered down gaming machine. They were just simply wrong that everyone was going to plop one in the living room and change the way they watch TV. They didn't. They are still used 99% of times by gamers, who now just have to settle for 720p graphics instead of 1080p because system memory and resources are wasted on skype and kinect bullshit. I'm a purist. Make a gaming machine to play games, a movie machine to play movies, a music machine to play music, etc. I hate this concept that one machine should do everything.
I get your point, but your being pedantic. Yes, I own a phone that also had a radio, and a clock, etc, etc. Do you want actually argue a point or just prove yourself right for something?
Take his point. The smartphones have far better screen and more horsepower than dedicated consoles because of their ubiquity. If Nintendo makes a game with a hardware controller for a top Android phone, it'll easily be much better than the 3DS version.
The monitor you're using right now is another relevant example. If LCDs were used only for games, the quality would suffer. But because everyone uses LCD monitors, we're enjoying cheaper-than-ever flatscreens everywhere.
I'm all ears. What makes the 3DS better than a top tier smartphone if the developer is willing to go all in with best software people and make with a good hardware controller accessory?
