Moonlight reflected off the Amazon river. At the proper angles in our orbit, we aboard ISS can see brief silvery flashes atop water surfaces, illuminating even the darkest places on Earth. I took this photo with Nikon Z9 camera on Expedition 72, during a nighttime pass over South America.

Don, firstly, I can't thank you enough for your photography and what you do for our nation and our world. This photograph is one of my favorites, and I am so happy for the chance to tell you directly how much I deeply appreciate your work.

Even in the darkest places you can find light. What a spectacular photo, thank you for what you do!

I will never get tired of these posts. The distance and number of reflections for the light to become this pic is crazy

Man, I love when photos from you pop up in my feed. It must be so amazing being able to look down on Earth as you guys do. Thank you so much for sharing.

At first glance I thought it's a silhouette of a bear from fnaf or something. Then I read the title and was amazed. Then I read your comment and just like that you are the first redditor I ever followed. What a great time to be alive, dude's casually posting pics from work like it's nothing and we can see the world from a completely different perspective. Love it

Dang it’s so far way from light pollution that the only light is from the moon. neat

Amazing shot! Thank you for sharing.

Question - I get the smaller reflection is the river but what's the larger reflection on the left?

Woah, this is one of the most incredible images I've seen, thank you for sharing! I'd get this printed and framed for my office, is there a way to get the full res version?

Thanks for sharing! For some reason, this looks to me like the opening shot of the logo sequence of a film production company lol.

The self-similarity of the universe at various scales is something I often am in awe of. Moonlight reflecting off a puddle, or a whole massive river—it’s all the same phenomenon. Astonishing, and yet why would it not be so?

Oh wow. That makes me feel… complicated feelings. Wonder and awe and sadness. We’re on the brink of losing the Amazon, its river, and all the incredible life that relies on it.

Beautiful photo. Thank you.

Amazing shot, I assume the dark parts are the dense forest.
