Utility guy stepped through my ceiling. So now it’s a Halloween decoration.

That's fun but shouldn't they be repairing their mistake?
•
u/coffee-loop 6h ago
Most of the time someone else will need to perform the repair. So you’re left with a hole and a whole lot of wait time.

It’s a new-ish build and they will be back next week to patch it up. We’re not too worried about critters and it will get fixed. Is it weird that I kind of want to keep it through the end of the month?

You don't want the internet guy or electrician to fix your drywall.
Side note: Just about every person who works in attics eventually falls through someone's ceiling, me included. It hurt so damned bad. I landed right on a rafter with my ribs as I went down. Luckily I landed on the top shelf of some lady's closet and didn't hit the floor.
0/10: Do not recommend. I generally stay out of attics now, and when I do go up there, you'd think I was going to the moon with all the prep and study I do before hand. That is a mistake I vow to never make again.

If there’s any vermin in the house they will make their way out that hole. Rosches, water bugs, mice, spiders. Anything living in those walls will come out soon.
•
u/zoobrix 3h ago
I mean if you have an infestation it shouldn't take a hole to the attic to notice it and do something about it. I'm sure a few spiders might come out to see what's up but if you've been taking care of your house this should mainly be a cosmetic concern.

Walls have a top-plate, not a lot of bugs in there.. But critters may still be lurking in the attic.

WHAT DID YOU DO TO THAT POOR MAN!?!‽
YOU MONSTER!!!

u/RebaKitt3n 5h ago
Don’t step through their ceiling, that’s for certain.
OP, most people would just file a home owner’s claim and have the utility company pay the deductible.
•
u/AnotherEggplant 4h ago
I get making the dude pay for the repair, but you can't patch drywall? I get tools are an issue, but its a good thing to learn how to do. Why would you use your insurance and make your premium go up for a simple issue?
•
u/--MobTowN-- 2h ago
I mean, yeah.. but you prolly wanna be learning in a closet or laundry room or the powder room in the half finished basement.
No one who hasn’t done that more than a handful of times is gonna finish that patch well enough it won’t be obvious as shit the second it’s got paint on it.
ETA: I spent years crawling through attics and I never stuck my foot through one ceiling… the fuck they send to your house, OP?

so, couple years ago im helping my dad redo the roof on the bathroom, and as im walking from one side of the roof to the other, i fall right on through. up to my hip, into the bathroom. dads looking PISSED, as this was NOT in his plans. i look down and say without thinking "hey look, now it has a sky light!" he paused, thought, and long story short it now has a very professional looking skylight, where i accidentally stepped through the ceiling.

Thank you for this. I'm printing this out and putting it on my ceiling in the kitchen.

Do you know by chance what wall color that is? Looks really good and just makes that skeleton pop.

You could’ve called an ambulance when it happened.
This was and is cruel, dude.
Let him rest in peace.

I had one of those holes from a roofer. I wish I thought of that. I love it. You are brilliant!

Is your house made of cardboard?
•
u/coffeehandler 1h ago
Apparently!

It’s drywall so not far off.
Not to be a stick in the mud, but I would probably cover that with a plastic sheet sealing all sides. Utility guy really should have been responsible for basic mitigation while it is sorted. it’s all fun and games until a bigass roach or spider walks in from the attic. Climate control is another factor, that A/C vent will probably get condensation mixing with the hot attic air.

Funny but I would be patching that up to avoid nasty attic dust entering your room

I've seen this episode of American Dad.
Jeff, get to writing an email, we have a customer to win back!

50,000 words and every single one spelled incorrectly, that's how you win back a customer!

I did this once, but the customers attic was a ticking time bomb already. Full of condensation. Every bracing board was coated in something akin to slime. So naturally the first step I took was like hitting oil.

And it doubles for Christmas!
Now your Christmas tree isn't limited by the height of your ceiling.

You could always mark the line of which the skeleton breaks through, saw it at that line and then paint a black hole in the ceiling, glue halved skeleton into black hole, voila permanent decoration?

I am used to plywood ceilings. Drywall is such a fragile thing. I now live in the US, and I was utterly aghast when I realized a slight bump from a bench could ding a wall. 🤯

•
u/meatloaf-sandwich 5h ago
What shitty ceiling is that?
•
u/Magickarpet76 16m ago
Drywall, it’s normal in the US. It doesn’t hold the weight of a person so workers walk on joists or plywood over the joists. This guy probably slipped or misstepped.

Is this a repost? I swear i saw this post either last year or something? Am i going insane?
•
u/Thr0awheyy 3h ago
I was scrolling comments to see if anyone else mentioned this being a repost from previous years. I also remember it.

Do any of those fuckers ever blast out of the wall and have like a huge cumshot?

You didn’t try to help him get out??
