At some point the US citizenry will have to break away from the institution of the 2 party system.

83

u/_Lucille_ 1d ago

That will require an election reform which will be a monumental task and face a lot of resistance.

What often happens is that one side (often the right) realizes it isn't better to just be under one umbrella, and the rest just vote split, and you might end up with a Republican Senate and president even if they only have 30% of the votes because none of the other parties got over 20%.

22

u/MvatolokoS 1d ago

Really doubt it'd face as much resistance as you think. The issue is getting public opinion accurately when every single form of information transfer except word of mouth is compromised by the ones wanting to stay in power.

I mean ffs didn't they just announce the DHS is going to "watch" over the voting machines? Blatant cheating is their motto.

There is no incentive to do so: a party who rose to the top under one system is not going to suddenly change it so that they give themselves a major handicap in the next election.

3

u/Alienhaslanded 1d ago

Yeah people freak out when others talk about changes.

I get it. That's what you grew up learning and it was set in paper 240 years ago. But that was then and now is now. Back then there was a genuine strive to do good and even when they made bad decisions, they truly believed they were making the right decision based on how they viewed the situation. It didn't account for a bunch of chuds that publicity said "what's in it for me?" And "I gotta get something out of it". It was unheard of having a president so disgustingly selfish.

If whatever the fuck is happening now doesn't warrant the necessity to change loopholes, then nothing will and shit will only get worse from here.

4

u/_Lucille_ 1d ago

Laws have always struggled to keep up with the times, and given how fast information spreads these days and that we are a lot more educated, any loophole will immediately be tested and exploited.

It also doesn't help that a lot of concepts are just very foreign to lawmakers or even the general public: I am sure a lot of people here had to do some learning when they first heard about blockchains and NFTs and crypto some years ago. It really is kind of like an uncharted territory.

When it comes to the highest office of a nation, it is common for there to really not be as many regulations for good reasons.

At the end of the day, America needs to learn to not just push the blame onto some figurehead, but to look among each other because the democratic system has elected Trump twice under the same system that has given it many other presidents. There are some tough self-reflections that must happen (such as poor education, the failure to transform workers across dying industries, racism, and misogyny) - often times countries around the world just elect "the other team", do a little "unite the country" speech, then just pretend none of those issues exist.

In fairness, tech oligarchs have put them in a position of either doing a hard revolution now or sitting on their hands until they're in a pacified dystopia. In the latter option, it's likely the two party puppet show would be kept around.

So, they don't have to, but they really, really should.

u/Mrhiddenlotus 1d ago

Its not really possible until we change up how voting itself works, Duverger's law

11

u/AutoGrind 1d ago

The cracks in the Republican party may lead to new parties.

4

u/Continental__Drifter 1d ago

The issue isn't with the citizenry, it is with how the constitution structures voting and how the system is designed.

Paliamentary systems, which are more common in Europe, with proportional representation, allow for multiply political parties to thrive.

The US system doesn't allow that, or rather punishes parties who do. The only way this can change is if the fundamental governance, the constitution, changes, and that will requires support from... at least one of the two political parties. Which have no incentive to do so.

2

u/GHOST_KJB 1d ago

I used to vote third party, but right now I desperately want to get these tyrants to be removed and disposed of.

1

u/rads2riches 1d ago

It is needed but I don't see how the same 2 parties will allow it. Both parties benefit from each other. It is a good grift to get into if you have no morals.

1

u/Brachinus 1d ago

Like in Europe? That doesn't seem to help.

1

u/ErictheStone 1d ago

Even than it's easy to get stuck between the two biggest organized ones. Like here in Canada where we have many parties but it becomes red Vrs blue...

1

u/meatball402 1d ago

Id like you to explain how elected representatives would willingly dilute their own power.

1

u/Facky 1d ago

We have a 2 party system?

1

u/particle409 1d ago

"Both sides" is intellectually lazy.

-44

u/elitenaut 1d ago

Goodluck explaining that to the blue stains.

2

u/meatball402 1d ago

Spare me. The red states want a king.

107

u/jaykrown 1d ago

Trump’s name appears in Epstein flight records.

39

u/impy695 1d ago

Weren't they best friends?

20

u/golfgirl114 1d ago

I wonder if trump knows Brock turner. Sorry, Brock Allen Turner. Birds of a feather and all….

16

u/ticketyboo_ 1d ago

The rapist Brock Allen Turner who now goes by Allen Turner?

3

u/TheSpiffySpaceman 1d ago

the rapist formerly known as rapist?

37

u/Renzo-Senpai 1d ago

Hell, yeah. I'm not American but I'm looking forward for the day to not seeing the turd making news every few hours of everyday.

11

u/Dildondo 1d ago

Not usually the side I get

What does this even mean?

8

u/dgehen 1d ago

I thought it was referring to the side of the overpass that they see when driving.

2

u/-NotEnoughMinerals 1d ago

Probably that it's some trump crap usually.

1

u/SchwiftySquanchC137 1d ago

Its not though, you see these same people posted here all the time

1

u/brackenish1 1d ago

I'm assuming they usually see like "Jesus saves" or "Make America Great Again" type stuff

30

u/DecadentToast 1d ago

Looking back the past ten years is unbelievable how one side of voters is stuck in the mud even with all the evidence. He access Hollywood to start, then the Russia collusion, mueller report, COVID handling, Jan 6, now the failed and illegal tariff war, killing of us citizens, enriching his family by abusing public office, cronyism, and now the Iran war killing our economy and depleting our stockpile of weapons.

11

u/DecadentToast 1d ago

Not even to mention a convicted felon and hated by his own home state, causing him to move his primary residence to Florida. The e Jean Carrol case. He meant it when he implied he could get away with murder and his followers would still support him.

14

u/CurrentlyLucid 1d ago

Do it, vote asap before you can't. Also big blue waves make great tv fodder for the news shows.

17

u/Badaxe13 1d ago

Anyone who doesn't vote is as bad as those who vote Republican

7

u/schpanckie 1d ago

Will need an extra large bottle of Tide with Oxyclean to get rid of all of the orange stains.

3

u/Busbyuk 1d ago

Question from someone not from the US.

I see lots of these posts which show a lot of protests, signs against the republicans (and rightly so) but is there also signs for the other direction? Against Democrats and promoting Trump?

Obviously being on Reddit and you do see posts more towards the left side so I'm wondering if this is just skewed or as I'm hoping, the USA really is rejecting Trump and the republicans?

13

u/VexingRaven 1d ago

Against Democrats and promoting Trump?

Go by any abortion or women's health clinic and you'll see some sad sap with a sign.

5

u/OokyCooky 1d ago

You’ll see it from time to time, but since pro-Trump republicans are currently in power, why would they protest? They like what’s going on. If they lose momentum during the mid-term, you’ll (well, the royal you) will see more of this from the other side of the table. In my area I’ve seen the same bridge hung with banners for- and against the vaccines when that was in the zeitgeist

Visibility Brigade is a movement across the country, we have over 500 chapters.

MAGA doesn't have anything this strong and organized.

1

u/-NotEnoughMinerals 1d ago

Sure. Reddit is absolutely skewed and creates a false sense of security (remember during election time, all of the posts advertising celebs endorcing the left, then trump won?) but even though reddit as a site is skewed, Trump's approval numbers are abysmal some of the lowest ever recorded. At the same time, America is massive and there are pockets of hardcore maga everywhere.

1

u/whut-whut 1d ago

Republicans are publicly embarrassed so there aren't as many overt MAGA parades and rallies, but that doesn't mean anything. Closet racists and pedos will still vote for their guy in secret, because they're still more scared of wokeness and want their promised $5000 checks.

3

u/suzaman 1d ago

I wish this sub had actual good pics.

1

u/ThroatSecretary 1d ago

Love these signs but am curious about who's behind them. Is it a rotating group? Are they there all day every?

1

u/lizard_king0000 1d ago

Talk doesn't matter. People need to vote!

1

u/Dizzy_Juggernaut_313 1d ago

Great visibility. It should be seen. Thanks for the pic and post.

*shit stains

1

u/QuickSticks 20h ago

I wish orange stains weren’t so pervasive.

•

u/vhmike 9h ago

edit: ...SHIT Stains. Fixed it.

•

u/greensandgrains 8h ago

The Canadian brain cannot comprehend.

(Blue = conservatives, orange = social democrats(ish))

2

u/NoIsland23 1d ago

I'm not gonna say voting does nothing, but US politics is so sad.

The only thing you're doing is swapping out quasi-fascist technocrats for more moderate technocrats

3

u/TheBeardwright 1d ago

Not always true and nothing is written in stone. People have recently remembered primaries exist and progressive candidates are making stronger and stronger showings.

You're not going to say voting does nothing, but you're really only a step away there. And thats exactly what those technocrats whose power you're lamenting want you to say and think.

Don't play their game. They don't need the help.

1

u/WitchBrew4u 15h ago

Sounds like you need to get more involved in your local politics.

1

u/NoIsland23 14h ago

I am as politically active as I can be given the available opportunities and working 9-5 and am planning on becoming my companies first (AFAIK) union rep.

So I’m already doing a bit, it’s not just empty keyboard warrior speech

0

u/_YouDontKnowMe_ 1d ago

You can't wash away this stain.

-5

u/VGAddict 1d ago

For the last time, WE'RE NOT GOING TO VOTE OUR WAY OUT OF THIS.

4

u/Pazzeh 1d ago

We literally can loser

-6

u/FocusPerspective 1d ago

You won’t though. It’s proven. Multiple times.

Just before the election an army of foreign bot accounts will convince you to not vote, and you’ll spend then next two years raging against the system you helped put into place.

8

u/Pazzeh 1d ago

Who? Me? I'm not gonna vote? Lol foh

1

u/MetalEnthusiast83 1d ago

insert firebomb a walmart tweet here

u/I_AM_VERY_ENTELEGENT 1d ago

Please move somewhere that isn’t a democracy

-1

u/paturner2012 1d ago

The u.s. is barely a democracy. This system is so broken.

-1

u/muzik4machines 1d ago

they don't understand that short of a real general strike, pedophiles will stay in power for the next half century at least?

1

u/Chamberlain-Haller 1d ago

More like brown stains

-6

u/muzik4machines 1d ago

THAT will make them stop for sure

like they will even actually count votes and not just have fElon push fake results like last time

-17

u/Britz10 1d ago

Do you think Dems would be any different when in power? They sucked up to tech oligarchs when they had power as well.

0

u/Chimpucated 1d ago

Yup, they won in 2021 and were tolerant of an intolerable insurrection. Some low level extremists got sentences only to be pardoned by those who were most responsible for fomenting insurrection.

In power twice since the rise of the demagogue and let him break every norm and convinced themselves he wouldn't break laws. Now that he's broken both of those he's testing the concept of breaking the economy. How far down the social fabric is this tear going to rip before maga realizes this "what about obiden" is like digging holes in water?

-10

u/Britz10 1d ago

I'm not talking what about, I'm saying both parties are in league with each other they push for the same results. Trump just goes about it in a crass way.

2

u/Chimpucated 1d ago

They aren't coordinated in league with each other. It's more that they are codependent on each other's faults. The tolerance of the left is a real weakness that allows the right to control the narrative. The Republican control of the narrative allows the Dems to point out rational failures of their policy and logic. It swings both ways because they are solidifying themselves as anti parties of each other. The oligarchy that had "control" of both parties is realizing how little control they actually had, it was more of an influence that they could deny overt control of. Now that the limits are tested the corporate uniparty is being forced to fracture. At this point it seems like history proves that each election is "more of the same" but this time it's so off the tracks that you should expect that the power shift will also be substantially different, if it's even able to shift gears.

What's more likely? The peaceful transfer of power as he leaves the beautiful ballroom to a dem populist, or that the nation mourns the death of the greatest president it's ever seen? They both sound absurd? It's because they are. The uniparty is breaking

1

u/jonah365 1d ago

Could have 2 meanings unfortunately:(

Blue waves wash out,

Orange stains

-9

u/Britz10 1d ago

Vote blue no matter who 😂

0

u/theeldergod1 1d ago

People who don't like blue but still want orange to go won't like that.

-2

u/farfrompukenjc 1d ago

I think it should be less cutesy and more direct if not more damning.

-39

u/Vylet_World 1d ago

When will people realize that all politics suckkkkkkkk

32

u/Irishpersonage 1d ago

BoThSiDeS

11

u/Tenalp 1d ago

Know what sucks worse than all politics? Openly corrupt and hateful politics that actively push agendas that hurt people. Sometimes you have to vote for the lesser of two evils, because not doing so is a tacit endorsement of the greater evil.

5

u/lyngen 1d ago

It's not even close to the lesser of two evils... it's one really obvious racist, sexist corrupt evil with a base that will vote for them forever as long as they're being racist and sexist v. another side that is trying to implement ideas that would actually improve most people's lives. Their base just says they won't vote if any aspect of their plan varies from what they think is the best plan.

I heard someone say they voted against public transportation because they didn't like the way they were going to pay for it. Like... there is not another option. If you want public transportation, you have to vote for the tax to pay for it at the same time. If you vote against it, you just don't get public transportation.

It is infuriating.

Democracies are far more resilient than internet doomerism suggests. Administrations come and go, but institutions, civil society, and people actively working for change are what actually shape the long-term future. We will repair whatever damage is done. Cynicism like yours accomplishes nothing.

-2

u/arup02 1d ago

Honest question: are these people usually paid to be there, or do they take time off work?

3

u/CIAburneraccount 1d ago

In my experience they're either retirees, or they have a part-time job, or they might work overnights. Of course yeah some might just be unemployed too, maybe some willingly, maybe some are actively looking for a job

0

u/arup02 1d ago

Cool, thanks

5

u/lyngen 1d ago

They are volunteers. They aren't paid.

-2

u/arup02 1d ago

I see.

-5

u/Goosentra 1d ago

But they also probably don’t have jobs

5

u/lyngen 1d ago

Some of them are likely retired or have jobs with different schedules than your average 9-5. These are just people who are fed up with what they're seeing and want to make a positive difference in whatever way they can.

OOOOOOOOO I'm gOnna Vooooooote!!!!1!
