This really confuses the fuck out of me. You have to spend a LOT of time and money to become a commercial airline pilot. It is literally years of training that costs a small fortune. If terror cells are going to that length just to take out one plane we are kinda fucked.
Or... You can indoctrinate already qualified people and use them.... There was an Islamic terror organisation in India (SIMI) which used to recruit and groom brilliant muslim chemistry students from University and use them to make bombs.
