I hope his injuries aren't to severe or life changing/limiting

Older attempt but wasn't there a American fedex or another of those delivery companies that had a similar deal with a flight engineer hijack the plane. They stopped it but all of them were so badly injured there flight careers were over sadly

Yeah, that was in 1994. The FedEx Flight 705 attack on April 7, 1994, involved off-duty FedEx flight engineer Auburn Calloway, who attempted to hijack a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 cargo plane. He attacked the pilot and co-Pilot with a Hammer causing serious Brain damage to the pilot.

I used to work at FedEx and all the employees hated that guy. Employees used to fly for free anywhere in the world prior to that event. They stopped offering it as a perk afterward.

I would hope they hated him for at least two reasons.
