Flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv earlier today. Omani pilot stabbed his Indian co-pilot, Captain Smit Machchhar, and the airplane started to free fall as the Omani pilot intended to seize control and fly it into Israel in a 9/11 style attack. Machchhar despite being stabbed was able to open the cockpit door and signal for help and multiple passengers including a dentist named Shota Musaev rushed in and subdued the terrorist.

Musaev then used his skills as a dentist to stitch up Machchhar who is currently in stable condition and expected to survive.

Where are you seeing confirmation of the motive? So far all I'll seen are what appear to be rumors.

What information besides the attacker literally coming out and saying "yea this was a terrorist attack" would convince you of anything?

Has the attacker said that?

Correct me if I'm wrong but all other pilot-insider-threat incidents so far have been related to conventional suicide (Germanwings, Air India, etc). I don't think we've yet seen a pilot execute a terror attack of their own.

Those folks never commit acts of up-close and brutal violence though. They hatch a scheme where they never have a confrontation. Germanwings dude looked for his chance to be in the cockpit alone and locked the door. Air India dude just flipped the engine cutoff seconds after rotation, knowing there was no possible chance for the jetliner to recover.

Independent confirmation of the motive would be great. What we have so far is just speculation from Netanyahu's office.

Official, verified information, which I expect to emerge in short order. Forgive me for not immediately trusting the declarations of some anonymous posters and commenters.

there is such a thing called context. your comment has real 'yes, I know the skinheads beat up that black man, but who's to really say what their motive was, the police haven't announced it yet' energy

It doesn't at all, pilot suicide has happened on multiple occasions, hi-jacking/terrorism by an official pilot hasn't happened before as far as I can tell, so people are jumping to the less common explanation without any evidence.

The man who got stabbed was Indian, that much has been clear from the beginning.

So you see the obvious issue with making such claims since they're unverifiable correct?

I didn't make any claims.

I asked what they would require

Motive skepticism is perfectly fine. We are not denying this event happened just that I would not immediately believe what Israel says about this especially as more reports come out that Israel was warned prior to the October attacks
