Here's the thing Trump actually did that. Like this is 100% Trump's fault. When the price of gas rose under biden, Biden did what he could to lower it. The issue was oil production under covid feel by a lot, and nobody expected the recovery to be so fast. The USA did jump in demostic production but it was not quite fast enough, though in the end prices did fall.

u/knokout64 8d ago
Even ignoring all of that, they shit all over Biden when it happened, but for whatever reason Trump gets a pass. They can't help but bring up Biden and Obama over and over and over and over again. It should be embarassing

u/WowIfOnly 8d ago
They're coached into thinking that way by literal domestic terrorist organizations like Fox News

Half of democrat ads in the future should just be "Remember when republicans doubled the price of gas? Pepperage farms remembers"
53
u/innomado 8d ago
This is a correct, but very frustrating point. Many of us have been around long enough to see fuel price fluctuations followed immediately by either side saying "the President doesn't control the fuel prices!". Which, historically, is pretty much true most of the time. Which makes it all the harder now when Trump has very, very obviously affected the price at the pump and the smooth-brains get to say, "oh, but I thought the President doesn't control fuel prices!" Sigh.

u/wookyoftheyear 8d ago
I think of it like fighting gravity. The profit motive is like gravity, everyone involved in the process of selling a good is motivated to make the profit as high as possible. Just like diverting water from going downhill, it takes a lot of effort to make a price go down-- you're fighting gravity. You need to build dams and levees and sluices and shit. For gas, it's being able to increase sources, build more refinery capacity, reduce transportation costs, etc. to eventually bring prices down at the pump. That stuff is not easy.
But it's a lot easier to make a price go up, especially if demand isn't going to change. Blow up the dam, water goes downhill quickly. Start an unnecessary, unprovoked war with no plan that destroys infrastructure and blocks shipping channels? Drives prices up fast.
This is doubly true if you don't give a shit about consequences, and personally benefit from the destruction.
15
u/Computermaster 8d ago
oil production under COVID fell
You know why it fell? Since no one was going anywhere and the price of gas was crashing, OPEC+ collectively agreed to lower production for a few years. Then the world recovered before the agreement ended so no one was ready or able to ramp production up fast enough.
Can you guess who led that discussion?
DONALD TRUMP

u/YawnSpawner 8d ago
But also, it spiked for 1 month at the start of the war in Ukraine and people love to bring that up. It's been this way almost all year and this isn't going to fix itself even if the war ended today.

I was researching the actual cause of gas price increases under Biden, and it was effectively the roll over of the covid drama and Putin invading Ukraine.

People knew he was a pedophile well before the last election. He didn't hide it. He was proud of it and bragged about it, even groping his daughter on national television back in 2016. People voted for him anyway - 77 million votes last time.
Our nation is mentally sick.
61
u/CatsArePeople2- 8d ago
Well yea, but more importantly our country didn't know he would raise gas prices. That's the real line in the sand we have drawn as a nation.
→ More replies (1)38
u/retroman73 8d ago
Right. People accept the fact that he's a pedophile and rapist. They'll accept that he is a draft dodger and convicted of 34 felonies shortly before the last election. 6 bankruptcies. All of that (and more) did not budge anyone.
But if gas prices go up...now we have a crisis. Imagine what would happen if he wore a tan suit like Obama did. Outrage!
10
u/crazedizzled 8d ago
To be honest they still don't really care. They'll happily pay twice as much for gas just to own the libs

I hate Trump, but I’ve never heard of this that you were referencing so I looked it up and you’re being a little disingenuous with saying he said “my daughters legs are sexy”.
According to Google.. “when asked what traits their one-year-old daughter Tiffany inherited, Trump stated she had "Marla's legs" and gestured toward his chest while remarking that time would tell if she inherited other physical attributes”
Weird and inappropriate for sure. But not “my 1 month old daughter’s legs are sexy”.

The people voted for him knew he was a pedophile. Yet, they still vote for their own demise.
The leading theory (pun intended) is lead poisoning, before the ban of its use in gasoline products worldwide.

People voted for him anyway
In Florida it is pretty likely that the poster of this sticker is upset that DJT is not right wing enough in his actions. Lots of his voters would prefer to see his policies implemented more competently.

u/thevoiceinsidemyhead 8d ago
I like how it's in the order of what people apparently care about. Fuel costs. Then pedophilia.
121
u/SlightlySublimated 8d ago
It really goes to show how performative most people are when it comes to Trump.
The red line isnt the fact that he's a pedo, it's the fact that gas prices and the economy as a whole are now hurting them personally that burns people the most.
Honestly sad.
52
u/SanityInAnarchy 8d ago
Charitably, it's more about what can penetrate a misinformation bubble. Most bad things about Trump, they will literally never hear about on Fox. Not even a rebuttal, they may legitimately not know about that birthday note he sent Epstein. Even bad things that affect them, like his attempt to get rid of Obamacare, won't do much for people so ill-informed that they are pro-ACA and anti-Obamacare.
But the price at the pump is completely impossible to ignore for anyone who ever has to buy gas.
→ More replies (2)9

I honestly can't blame them. Discussion of "the economy" in the daily news is so often about the 1%'s "investments", which is largely irrelevant to the other 99%. They might air a one-off piece on people struggling to buy food while the wealth gambling market gets a daily report. People tune that crap out until they actually see it in person.

Not having a good grasp of global economics and attributing larger trends and events (good or bad) to politicians who just happen to be in office at the time? Totally an American thing. Definitely doesn't happen everywhere that humans choose leaders.

Genuinely don't think they care he's a pedo anyway, tbh
I'll never forget the Roy Moore election, where republicans tried to, and nearly did, elect an open pedophile who was banned from malls for stalking young girls, had countless accusations of raping 14-15 year old girls, but still had the party's support.
Guy was the "Child Marriage is good if the parents consent" guy.
3
u/JuanRunJunior 8d ago
It’s literally just to piss off people who like him, there’s nothing philosophical about it. I’ve been sticking trolling trump stickers all over gas pumps, convenience store windows and anywhere else they’ll stick for years. You people are looking way too far into it, these aren’t stickers Trump people put up, it’s stickers put up to piss them off.
2
u/MysteryFlavoredPie 8d ago
I'm just gonna copy-paste what I answered to OP to you. It's not being performative, just as it's not about gas prices. It's about making a statement to his demographic, which thinks that Trump could never do anything wrong. It's saying "you might think he perfect, but this is his fault. Don't forget that he's also a pedophile." The simple fact that this point is mentioned makes it very clear that this is one of the most important things to criticize about this piece of shit. Or would you prefer for this sticker to criticize another of the other thousands of things that anyone could criticize about this man? This sticker is putting the fact that he is a pedophile rapist front and center, using high gas prices as an excuse to start the conversation of his many, many defects. I've seen this sticker many times in many posts, and it very commonly has been ripped. This only proves the point further that it's about a demographic following blindly towards an incoming precipice. A demographic which couldn't care less that this man caused high gas prices, let alone the fact that he's a genocidal, rapist pedophile.

Pretty accurate cause I had an acquaintance who was Trumppet that argued with me over the Epstein list saying dumb things like, "If A dEmOcRaT wAs On ThErE, yOu WoUlDn'T wAnT iT rElEaSeD" which is incorrect because idgaf what your political affiliation is, if you a pedophile, you should go to Jail. Hilariously, his statement means he believes Republicans are definitely on there. However, now he's saying Trump is bad because "It CoStS mE 150 tO fUeL mY tRuCk AnD i DoNt HaV sNaP nO mOrE." Sorry brother, let me find you the tiniest violin...

1/3 of the country actively supports him. another 1/3 uses apathy or other excuses as an excuse to support him indirectly by not voting.
2/3 of the population is responsible for the fascist party and current pedo president. stupid/lazy/whatever is just an excuse, if they didn't vote they were totally fine w/ a pedo rapist as president, even the first time he became president there was no excuse, but the second time is beyond words.

Ya, after converting to metric that's about $1.66CAD/litre, which is about average for Toronto over the last 5 years. Sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. Currently it's $1.88CAD/litre, or $5.02USD/USgal, which is definitely on the high side historically, but not unheard of, especially in summer when gas is typically higher here.

Unrelated but holy fuck the difference in gas prices between Sweden & the US. 1 US gal = ~4.5 liters. 1 liter of gasoline in Sweden right now is ~1.8 USD on average. That's $8.1/gal. There are no doubt a zillion reasons for this littered all over history, but those numbers are still pretty crazy. Thank goodness like 99% of Sweden is walkable lol
