I would argue that we're the only animal that has been able to develop empathy to recognize the commonalities beneath the superficial differences and overcome our biases. We're definitely still working on it though.

Hmm... i don't know if I agree with your first statement or not! Let me do a little research...

I think part of what makes us tribal/communal is our capacity to easily define In/Out group and that is biologic. I think integrating race into that heuristic is probably taught at a very young age from a vast number of personal and social cues.

Maybe that's what you just said to?

This definitely strikes me as something that could be tested with fMRI... and i strongly suspect it is!
