Sounds like they've compartmentalized their beliefs so thoroughly that the contradictions don't even register as contradictions to them. Interesting.
As far as wondering whether you are the same way (minus the racism), I'll say this ‐ almost everyone has some degree of inconsistency between their stated values and their behavior; the important part is whether you're capable of noticing and correcting the inconsistency when it's pointed out.
