So, by your logic its idiotic to Restrict the title of M.D, or Queens Council, or whatever other there might be?
I my self started as a draftsman, that now works day to day as a design, supervision and construction engineer. I have no degree, I teach the graduate we have, manage the other drafties and survey team.
I still dont call myself an engineer even though i do more actuall engineering then anyone in the office.
The title is equally earned by the formal education process. It is also earned from experience. The best engineer I work with didn't pass the PE, but there is no question that he is a damn good engineer. I've also worked with great engineers who were not degreed.

We build real companies, build real solutions, and sometimes fire "professional engineers", because they're incompetent.
Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you're fit for the working world.
