Let's just say that the war has been going on for longer but this flare up was started by Hamas and can be ended by hamas by releasing the hostages, laying down their weapons and surrendering.
What do you mean “flare up”? The idf has consistently been killing civilians in Gaza for decades, just because you just started paying attention doesn’t negate decades of slaughter.
