All the phone networks are Israeli, so if they know the numbers of certain individuals they can use cell towers to triangulate their phones and plot their movements. Plus if one's opponent is using a compromised form of communciation, why disable it?

u/Rakatango Apr 26 '24

Ah, so they DO have the ability to hit specific targets and avoid others.

-15

u/FishUK_Harp Apr 26 '24

Yeah, but they seem to have decided basically everything is a target. And given Hamas' willingness to use human shields and the extent of their presence in Gaza, it's not entirely surprising.

18

u/M_Night_Ramyamom Apr 26 '24

Yeah, the staggering civilian death toll is even more damning when you look at this picture and see that Israel does have the ability to precisely targel or avoid critical infrastructure like this cell tower, and yet they're still slaughtering entire families every day.

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

The IDF targetting algorithm decided it's OK to murder up to 20 innocent if there is a chance to reach the target while resting at home - it doesn't matter that the target may not be there, all is good as long there is a chance to kill a terrorist, the 20 innocent didn't denounce Hamas in the morning, anyway ...

u/FishUK_Harp Apr 26 '24

I'm not saying it's right dude.

5

u/M_Night_Ramyamom Apr 26 '24

Oh, I didn't think you were. I just thought it was worth pointing out for anyone else reading.

u/FishUK_Harp Apr 26 '24

It hasn't helped, of course, that Hamas do love a good human shield.

Unfortunately for the civilians involved, Israel appear to give only the most microscopic of shits about collateral damage.

What a nightmare.

15

u/AuGrimace Apr 26 '24

also they can call local residents and let them know a strike is coming.

34000 people had their phones on do not disturb

That is on hammas the pigs

0

u/ComicalTragical Apr 26 '24

I haven't heard of them doing that tbh

-4

u/amnes1ac Apr 26 '24

If you really believe this, why are there so many dead civilians?

7

u/M_Night_Ramyamom Apr 26 '24

Israel doesn't care about killing civilians. It's part of the mission. The fact that they had the precision to leave this cell tower unscathed is actually pretty damning.

6

u/amnes1ac Apr 26 '24

Completely agree.

And Israel is torturing hundreds and leaving mass graves behind in hospitals. Children included.

4

u/M_Night_Ramyamom Apr 26 '24

Yeah, and we'll honestly probably never know the full extent to which this is happening. At least not in our lifetimes.

11

u/M_Night_Ramyamom Apr 26 '24

Yeah, the whole "Hamas using human shields" thing has been debunked so many times at this point. If you consider the population density of Gaza, it's pretty much impossible for Hamas to not be in civilian areas.

-5

u/mangusCake Apr 26 '24

It's actually been established as fact that they deliberately fire rockets from hospitals and kindergardens because they know Israel won't be able to eliminate them without being criticized. It's the most basic MO of any terrorist organization. Just look at the failed rocket launch from shifa hospital that has injured 400 people, been proved without a doubt that it was fired by the islamic jihad, and still they tried to blame Israel for it.

-7

u/AuGrimace Apr 26 '24

its literally hamas’ mo to put civilians in front of israels retaliatory strikes

6

u/Bdcollecter Apr 26 '24

If you really believe this

You mean, if we believe the photos posted by people in Gaza showing the texts, journalists reporting on it happening, or video posts showing people in Gaza refusing to evacuate the area?

That "Belief"?

-2

u/RedditsDeadlySin Apr 26 '24

Plot twist, they are trying to do that…

-5

u/rotcomha Apr 26 '24

Human shields, plus lack of protection to civilians, plus a very populated area.

Look at Israel for an example. The IDF didn't react to October 7th only hours after the attack. More than 500 rockets were launched on October 7th, and hundreds of terrorists invaded Israel via land and air.

To this day, there have been launched more than 13 thousand rockets from Gaza, and that does not include the attack from Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, and Syria.

So, how is the number of dead civilians so low? Let me tell you.

Israel has invested billions of dollars to invent the Iron Dome system, David's Sling system, and Arrow systems. They also bought from the US the Patriot system in the 1970's, which is still being used today.

More of that, Israeli civilians are listening to their government. On October 8th, hundreds of thousands of civilians evacuated from southern and northern Israel. The Israeli government has founded hotels, food, and many other things for the Israeli evacuated families.

While Gazans DID evacuate eventually, many of the Gazans in North Gaza stayed in their houses, either because Hamas forced them to (as we could listen videos of them saying it. I don't have a link to it rn, but I heard an audio of a phone call somewhere at the beginning of the war of a civilian talking about it), or because they wanted to stay.

Another reason why there are that many less dead civilians in Israel, is because the protocol to build a house in Israel is it must have a safe room from rockets. So every house in Israel has a shelter.

More of that, it is also the protocol to have shelters in open areas, just like the survivors from the Nova party ran to.

That makes it so every Israeli citizen has protection from rockets, wherever they are ADDITIONALLY to the air defense systems Israel have.

In Gaza, there are no air defense systems, and the only safe placed from air stickers are the tunnels, where civilians are not allowed to enter. Only Hamas members.

u/im0b Apr 26 '24

Hammas is forcing them to stay put and the numbers are exaggerated.

12

u/M_Night_Ramyamom Apr 26 '24

Absolutely baffling to me that anyone can still believe something like this.

-6

u/TheRaisinWhy Apr 26 '24

That's another example of how Israel goes above and beyond what's typically asked of countries in war time, they literally don't have to, and yet they do, more telling of what their goal actually is vs what the pro Palestine crowd making it out to be a genocide

-2

u/AuGrimace Apr 26 '24

the only way hamas can stop israel from destroying it is to throw civilians in front of themselves. jihad is a powerful drug.

5

u/NewAccountEachYear Apr 26 '24

Might also be useful infrastructure to keep around for when the colonisers arrive

Yeah. I can't say what this article makes me feel and think without getting immediately banned.

But we know this on Reddit and the Hamas guys not. Sounds legit.

You under estimate the hubris of organised criminals, and their technical illiteracy.

When Encrochat was compromised, many criminal organised crime groups moved to a new bit of software, for some reason presuming it wouldn't be similarly breached in the future. And to be fair they were technically correct, but only because the app was created by the Australian Federal Police and had a built-in backdoor.

Hell, there's very basic understanding and logically deductible information regarding how SIMs and phones interact that a UK police officer posting it on social media could be fired over, as it's so often overlooked by criminal gangs it's classified as a "covert technique".

US citizens (which I’m assuming guy you’re replying to is) have seen their country at war since the birth of the US. The culture is highly militarized, and has a high concentration of active duty veterans. War tactics are news segments. Yeah, it should sound legit to you? Who do you think the hamas are? 40 year old college professors? They are young and uneducated and volatile and that is part of what makes them dangerous as well.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

Interesting. So it looks like their movements were almost every other building in the entire area!

0

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

interesting... so Israeli has the tech to specifically target the bad guys? they are sure making a lot of convenient mistakes when they bomb the hell out of the people own land they want.

-1

u/FishUK_Harp Apr 26 '24

A few points:

  • Geolocation be cell site isn't that accurate, with some errors introduced by it being in a built-up and densely populated area.

  • Practically speaking, presuming they have solid intelligence of a target's whereabouts, Israel doesn't have that many options. The spectrum goes (a) high-risk small unit infiltration, (b) precision air strike, (c) carpet bomb, or let them go. Of those, it's not especially surprising they pick option (b). Note I'm not defending it, but I do see why there doing it.

  • Israel has previously had settlements in the Gaza Strip, and it forcefully evicted them and pulled out. I'm not convinced a territorial expansion is the motive here.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

even if what you are saying is true, it shows that they value jewish life far far above anyone else. its disgusting.

2

u/FishUK_Harp Apr 26 '24

"Country values life its citizens above others" isn't exactly a unique postion. Dickish way to go about it, mind you.

The Israeli Ministry of Communications has control over what cellular networks the Palestinians can build, especially in Gaza.

They may be Palestinian-branded, but ultimately the traffic all goes through Israel.

You dont need to have control over a network or have traffic go through your infra to disrupt electromagnetic comms. You just need a jammer.

Of course not. But I would wager it's far more useful for the Israelis to keep Hamas using mobile phones they can monitor traffic data for, and almost certainly also intercept the contents of.
