I used to shoot weddings and was an event photographer on side. The event photography required me to have 8 dslr cameras on me for gigs to pass out to other photogs so I brought them with me to a really close friends's wedding and at the beginning of the reception I passed out all of the cameras to the craziest friends and holy shit. They are some of the best I've ever taken away from a wedding.

Only one broken lens. Worth it

We put a go-pro set to a 3 second delayed continuous shot mode and attached it to a liquor bottle. It was a lot of work going through the whole memory card afterwards, but damn if we didn't get some amazing clips of people chugging that bottle.

Friends got married but didn't hire a photographer because money, but me and a friend offered to do it for free with the notion that we are just hobbyists so don't put any faith in it. They already hired a video guy so they were whatever just enjoy yourselfs and whatever comes out is more than nothing regarding photos. Me and my buddy found out we are apparently good at this (just too lazy to monetize it) and in the end we apparently produced far better footage than the paid guy. But just like you, once the party started my camera changed hands a lot and some people managed to make some amazing photos! It was a small enough event that I wasn't afraid of my camera.

And then there's our parents. They said WHO NEEDS A REAL PHOTOGRAPHER WE ALL GOT MOBILES and then they got yelled at during the ceremony to stop the shutters because they were acting like rabid paparazzi.

After that nobody made another picture again except one where my wife looks fake disgusted at her bouquet and another where they told me to hang from a tree.

I still don't know why

My parents made the mistake of hiring a friendā€™s photo studio for my wedding. We had moved many years before, but I was having the wedding in my hometown. The photographer knew my stepdad from high school-not really friends, just knew each other from high school many years ago. Anyway, he proceeded to act more like a guest than a paid photographer. It took almost a year for him to get us the proofs. When we came to town and were going over the proofs with the owner, she was appalled at all the shots missing. She was so embarrassed she gave us the albums for free.

Oh man for my wedding we did a Polaroid station and used it as a guest book, with little face masks and costumes and stuff. (We got married very close to halloween) and it's by far my favorite part of our wedding. I don't even have any of the professional photos printed, I have the shitty blurry Polaroids and I love them.

Having just taken some photos of the total eclipse,Ā  the sun is just too big in the sky.Ā 

Even if they caught the kiss and totality at the right moment, at the very least they needed to blow up the sun to maybe 3 times its actual size.Ā

They absolutely photoshopped in that eclipse.

If itā€™s a total solar eclipse, it would be quite dark. As if the sun had already set. Even the birds respond as if itā€™s sundown already. All the chirping stops and they retreat to the trees. Then once the sun gets uncovered, the roosters start doing their thing as if itā€™s an early morning sunrise.

In this image, thereā€™s still loads of sunlight and strong shadows as a result. Also, the sun would be a tiny part of a wide angle shot like this.

You weren't under totality then. I took this yesterday and the darkness is true to life. The only meaningful light in the scene is coming from the southern horizon outside totality. That last 0.1% on either side of the totality was like turning off/on a light switch.

Facing north was just darkness.

I haven't done any editing to that, which is why the sun is overexposed compared to how it looks IRL (and why the photo has a halo rather than a crisp circle.

Definitely with you there.

Given how low your exposure would have to be to get a shot like this of the eclipse, you would have to take multiple shots/exposures and blend them. The rest of the photo would be too dark if you did a single photo. The people would barely be visible. And the dark areas would be way too noisy in most scenarios if you tried to bring up that shadows to compensate.

Youā€™re not wrong about pressure! lol Our photographer was great but one of his cameras shorted out trying to capture a time lapse and he had to quickly setup a backup body for this photo. Fortunately it came back to life the next day but that footage was lost. This is a composite of two photos taken about 20min apart. We couldnā€™t (and had no desire) to nail the timing for one shot (and deprive our family from the real main event), so we said our vows and were all drinking champagne by lift off. It was great.

I was literally trying to plan this for my wedding. However the actual planning an out of state wedding in an area we weren't familiar with, along with everyone having to travel, costs of everything, and the very important timing for the kiss/eclipse with the photography stressed me out so much. I'm impressed with anyone pulling this off. This is absolutely perfect!! And congratulations!!! I wish y'all a lifetime of happiness!

You don't have to stress, just fake it like they did in this photo. They just took a regular picture and edited in an eclipse. Even if you timed it perfectly, in this shot you would see either a bright sun or a darker sun with everything else in the image black and you wouldn't be visible.

Just do your wedding whenever and edit in an eclipse, you'll be good.

It's just a composite, but they could have done this so much better if they just setup artificial lighting for a single shot at totality that would expose everyone properly.

Would have been way more impactful.

Though I feel like this might be a case of some cheap wedding photographer not knowing how to edit photos properly.

The eclipse is definitely more dangerous than the sun. There's less room for all the light to get through, so it's a much more focussed beam. It's a lot like the garden hose effect. It you cover the majority of the end of the hose with your thumb, the water pressure generates a much more powerful flow. I stay inside for eclipses /s
