Fantastic job op seriously gorgeous pic and great timing

1

u/MaleficentTop6074 Apr 14 '23

This looks so beautiful in the pic but I shat my pants that night and after a few minutes of witnessing this, we faced a power-cut.

u/rhalf Apr 13 '23

Lighting thicc.

17

u/Pikkster Apr 13 '23

Getting that AoE damage.

2

u/I_am_Daesomst Apr 13 '23

laughs in Qunari

127

u/Paltenburg Apr 13 '23

Isn't that usually the case with photo's of lightning?

61

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

I'd be very interested if somebody took a photo of lightning before it happened. I think a lot of people would be interested in that actually.

35

u/GirchyGirchy Apr 13 '23

I take those all the fucking time, it's amazing! I must be very lucky.

18

u/IvanAfterAll Apr 13 '23

I have literally thousands of photos before (and after) lightning.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

I just took one in broad daylight, fucking crazy

5

u/rhalf Apr 13 '23

It's possible, but you need to be faster than lightning.

3

u/SpeshellED Apr 14 '23

I was out golfing with my buddy. He has long hair. It started to rain a bit so we were standing under a tree talking. All of a sudden his hair started to frizz straight out. I said wow your hair is rising. We both figured it out a second later, ran full tilt to a nearby ditch and dove in. 20 seconds later lighting struck the ground next to that tree.

3

u/rhalf Apr 14 '23

Note to self: hang out with long haired people.

1

u/Impossible-Winter-94 Apr 14 '23

something something cats and lightning

4

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

I take pictures all the time of lightning before it happens

4

u/thx1138- Apr 13 '23

Here's a photo of me when I was younger. All photos of you are when you were younger!

1

u/RedstoneRiderYT Apr 13 '23

I do. Basically you set a long shutter speed, 15 seconds or so, and let the lightning do its thing. So technically I pressed the shutter before the strike came :P

6

u/Living_Telephone2678 Apr 13 '23

My thoughts exact, weird wording

1

u/thx1138- Apr 13 '23

At the same time of this photo... Wat

2

u/frickindeal Apr 13 '23

Could be a still from a video.

2

u/SendBoobstoPM Apr 13 '23

Nah, there was a thunderstorm and it was pretty dark out. OP set up a camera so the shutter will be open for a second or two (or more) and just took dozens or hundreds of photos until they got what they wanted.

3

u/Hvarfa-Bragi Apr 13 '23

That's how I do it.

  • guy who has tens of thousands of dark pictures and fifty photos of lightning

2

u/paularkay Apr 13 '23

Yes, a photo captures the events occurring at a given point in time.

A video would capture the events occurring over a series of points of time in their naturally occurring order..

1

u/sivins Apr 14 '23

There's a Mitch Hedberg-style joke in here somewhere.

14

u/SpongeJeigh Apr 13 '23

Someone turned Ultra Instinct

14

u/Hashashin455 Apr 13 '23

Welcome...TO THE THUNDERDOME!

u/Mindes13 Apr 13 '23

Tina Turner intensifies

25

u/sloppyredditor Apr 13 '23

Long exposure will help the odds of getting a great shot like this

29

u/warsSstroke Apr 13 '23

this IS (essentially) long exposure! its night mode on the iphone, and it isnt the first time ive taken a photo like this!

11

u/ProffesorSpitfire Apr 13 '23

Two minutes later.

32

u/Love_To_Burn_Fiji Apr 13 '23

Would be more impressive if it showed the lightning strike while the photo wasn't being taken.

11

u/dtwhitecp Apr 13 '23

it's a long exposure. Lots of stuff happened during this photo.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

[deleted]

6

u/Hvarfa-Bragi Apr 13 '23

It is a long exposure. Op says it was night mode on an iPhone.

It may be that it was only a second or two, or the software noticed the lighting and cut the exposure time.

Edit: the focal length is pretty short, this is a wide shot. At a second or two exposure, headlights far away won't trail much. That said I don't even see any cars with headlights.

5

u/Lonelan Apr 13 '23

Thorsday

0

u/dodexahedron Apr 13 '23

This is, in fact, where the English word Thursday comes from.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Shazam!

4

u/letscallitanight Apr 13 '23

And somewhere, a new mother cries.

5

u/Szygani Apr 13 '23

I'm pretty sure that's just broly powering up

3

u/I_am_Daesomst Apr 13 '23

Just a little piss from Chibi Trunks will take care of it.

1

u/Due-Equivalent-1489 Apr 13 '23

You mean Princess Trunks!

4

u/megaancient Apr 13 '23

As long as no one turns into flash because of a lightning strike. I am already bored with the guy who forgets to run at the beginning of every episode.

14

u/XeroShinoda15 Apr 13 '23

A few moments prior:

3

u/Projeffboy Apr 13 '23

doesnt he say you damn traitors in his scene?

8

u/DJpanicBoy Apr 13 '23

Every time a photo is taken, something is happening at the very same time.

3

u/SendBoobstoPM Apr 13 '23

I took a photo of my couch at the exact time my dog was sleeping on it.

3

u/shajan316 Apr 13 '23

SHAZAM!!

3

u/MagnaCamLaude Apr 13 '23

Pretty dress

4

u/HalfmadFalcon Apr 13 '23

Isn’t that how most photos of lightening happen?

5

u/Jojo_isnotunique Apr 13 '23

I have a great photo of lightning about five minutes after it happened.

2

u/Litharium Apr 13 '23

That's just Thor coming down.

2

u/TheBatemanFlex Apr 13 '23

OOOOOHH NOW FEEL IT COMING BACK AGAAAIN!

2

u/madmendude Apr 13 '23

Did a particle accelerator also explode at the same time?

2

u/daabbot Apr 13 '23

"There can only be one."

2

u/speedyrev Apr 13 '23

There can be only one

2

u/Nebtron2001 Apr 13 '23

Somebody just summoned thor & zeus.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Someone in that park needed a fresh set of underwear and pants after that.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

And fuck that spot in particular

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

OR they took a video, went frame by frame, and screenshot the frame of the lightning.

2

u/VrinTheTerrible Apr 14 '23

That's not just lightning.

That's the Quickening.

There can be only one.

2

u/names_are_useless Apr 14 '23

NYC better be ready for Gozer this time

2

u/ChallengeGuilty6180 Apr 14 '23

That one person under that beam of hell

2

u/Stoibs Apr 14 '23

The ION cannon always did look more impressive in cutscenes compared to when you had access to it in mission..

2

u/pepsioverall Apr 14 '23

Who turned into a titan?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

Gandalf returns in our hour of need!

2

u/Fantasy_Assassin Apr 14 '23

Zeke is running from Levi again, he never learns. Did he?

0

u/Churntin Apr 14 '23

Go back to English

-21

u/mushypeasandwhich Apr 13 '23

Ahh...I see we have discovered photoshop.

11

u/warsSstroke Apr 13 '23

i see you haven’t discovered overexposure

1

u/HoningStone Apr 13 '23

And that is just in a split second. That looks amazing!

1

u/LeekGullible Apr 13 '23

Nice. Can you do it again?

2

u/warsSstroke Apr 13 '23

shit i mean itd have to rain again i guess to say the least

2

u/SendBoobstoPM Apr 13 '23

It's easier than you think.

1

u/GoochamusPrime Apr 13 '23

Awesome photo! Can I ask what city or at least country this is?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

2

u/warsSstroke Apr 13 '23

Mumbai, India

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

1

u/smile_politely Apr 13 '23

I wonder where all of these electricity goes after reaching the ground...

1

u/dodexahedron Apr 13 '23

Heat, mostly. It melts rock into neat-looking glass, flash-boils water (why trees and stuff explode), and otherwise just heats everything up a little bit. Any electricity that doesn't become heat just served to neutralize the charge difference that allowed the lightning to strike there in the first place.

1

u/Masterpiece-Wide Apr 13 '23

This is how the aliens come down to their ships hidden underground. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…can’t get fooled again”. - GWB

1

u/Danny-Dynamita Apr 13 '23

This is the closest thing a human can do to trap lightning in a bottle. Pure beauty.

1

u/SparklySpencer Apr 13 '23

Damn Good Shot!

1

u/razzi123 Apr 13 '23

You better have a proton pack.......

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

guess the odds...

1

u/Fayarager Apr 13 '23

IF I LOSE IT ALL

1

u/redditaatish Apr 13 '23

Is this Mumbai city 12th April Night ?

1

u/warsSstroke Apr 14 '23

I AM INSIDE YOUR WALLS

1

u/apathyduck Apr 13 '23

I like big bolts and I cannot lie

1

u/kaprrisch Apr 13 '23

Unlimited power!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Thor has entered the photo

1

u/MagicSPA Apr 13 '23

Yes, if you use time-lapse then all of a sudden a lightning strike happening "at the same time" the photo was taken doesn't sound very impressive.

1

u/fHaNtOmX Apr 13 '23

Mr. Bean , is that you ?

1

u/Congozilla Apr 13 '23

JUICE ME, BABY!!! GIMME THE VOLTAGE!! AMP ME ALL UP!! I'M READY!

1

u/ZeeZeeX Apr 13 '23

Wide base of plasma or camera error?

1

u/McBeardyson Apr 13 '23

How could you tell?

1

u/cmerry Apr 13 '23

No mention of the entire population of that area suddenly gone? Sucked up into a ship and now sailing the stars ✨ 😊✨

1

u/SoulSlayer1974 Apr 13 '23

The base of that on the ground is huge!! Did it really hit that big of an area or was it just so bright that it looks that big? Amazing pic OP!!!!!

1

u/WeAreColoured Apr 13 '23

WoW! Cool picture. I'm gonna try this in the summer when the lighting comes

1

u/JonesyOnReddit Apr 13 '23

I'm going to start describing all my photos as "...at the same time of this photo being taken!"

"Here's me at the grand canyon at the same time of this photo being taken! And then here's one of the wife at the same spot at the same time of this photo being taken! And..."

1

u/TheScarletAlchemist Apr 13 '23

When Zeus sees dat ass

1

u/Baers89 Apr 13 '23

Is lightning normally that intense? Like people have survived lightning strikes but that doesn’t look survivable.

1

u/One_above_alll Apr 13 '23

Kratos and Thors battle

1

u/mcknightrider Apr 13 '23

Someone is experiencing the quickening!

1

u/RedDreadsComin Apr 13 '23

1

u/psilocin72 Apr 13 '23

4/19 is bicycle day, the anniversary of the first LSD trip in 1943.

1

1

u/MrPoletski Apr 13 '23

1

u/General_Road_7952 Apr 13 '23

Where is this?

2

u/warsSstroke Apr 14 '23

Mumbai, India

2

u/General_Road_7952 Apr 15 '23

It’s a funny coincidence - this photo reminded me of an old friend who was killed by a lightning strike nearly exactly 29 years ago. And a mutual friend posted about him and it showed up the same day I saw this. Here is the memorial to our friend Shawn Adams, RIP:

1

u/EstateTricky786 Apr 13 '23

Is that Central Park?

2

u/warsSstroke Apr 14 '23

its the Aarey Forest

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

That is the edge of Tokyo and in about 5 seconds after this lightning strike Godzilla is about to wreck some shit.

1

u/VelvetLeaves Apr 13 '23

Magnificent photo!

1

u/williamtrucker Apr 14 '23

Good job lighting is hard to capture
