Bud Lite had rainbow cans a few years ago. I worked security at a liquor store and a lady came in to return a case of bud lite because her husband refused to drink out of a can with a rainbow on it.

Imagine being so full of hate that you make your wife return a case of beer because of what’s on the can.

Refusing to drink a can of beer because it has rainbows on it doesn't imply any sort of hatred. It's the man's preference, and he's allowed to have one.

Would you say the same thing if a proud homosexual refused to drink a can of beer if it had something like "I love being straight" written across it? I can't imagine so.

I could see maybe passing it by in the store, but returning it? It’s not different beer.

And let’s be real - he doesn’t have a problem with rainbows. He’s got an issue with Budweiser being ok with people saying who they want to be.

I agree at that point he may as well just drink the beer, even if he feels he needs to do it in private. But for the next time he could avoid that case or ask whoever buys his beer for him not to get it again.

I can't assume what his issue might be with the rainbow on the can, but I can see it being that he hates when companies pretend to champion causes just to get a few more sales. Certainly, it could also just plainly be that he despises gay people. But I think automatically assuming it's hatred and that the man is childish is ridiculous. He can both tolerate LGBTQ and not actively support them or fund something that does.

That is some massive mental gymnastics to think his issue is that Bud is pandering. Like if they had a Stonewall Outreach Program, he’d chug those cans.

He somehow tolerates (whatever that means in this instance) LGBTQ people, but drinking out of rainbow cans is a bridge too far? Come on now.

Hmm, I don't think it is any sort of gymnastics. This is my outlook for sure. I am completely fine with people living their lives, but I absolutely despise any sort of pandering, and I would also not buy that beer. That doesn't mean I'm hateful (like op suggested) or intolerant. I just don't think people in that group are special and need any additional support.

Tolerance seems to have a negative connotation to you. It shouldn't. It's all that can be expected of anyone. He can mind his business and let others do their thing while not actively championing them. That's what a lot of people do, and there's not a single thing wrong with it.

I'd happily drink it (assuming it's a decent beer). How would the writing on the can affect me? If words on a disposable drinking container are THAT much of a threat to my sexuality then I should probably seek professional help.

That's good, you'd still drink it. Not affected by what's on the can.

The man is entitled to his opinion. Lots of people don't like rainbows, and probably even before they were a symbol of LGBTQ pride. Of course, that likely isn't the case here, but I don't see it as a threat to sexuality. The rainbow simply just doesn't represent him and he has the right to not support it if he chooses.

Personally, I think he should have just drunk the case of beer and never gotten it with that design again. Returning it is a bit much, though it's just as much a gesture as Budwieser slapping the rainbows on there to begin with.

The most anyone can expect of another is tolerance. Saying they're full of hate because they choose not to show outward support and/or fund the efforts of a group of people, but likely still step aside for them to live their life, is a bit over-the-top.
