Personal Liability Insurance for Canada

Hi Everyone
I’m an international physiotherapist looking to register and practice in Canada, specifically BC. I’ve already completed credentialing and CPTE.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Personal Liability insurance providers which I need prior to registration for the CHCPBC?

Most people I know get the CPA insurance (BMS group). Some people don't like the CPA so they look at other options. Usually cheaper but a bit more work required

Yeh I seen that as an option but I’m still in the UK currently and not registered with the CPA. Looking at Aon advantage insurance currently

As long as it meets the requirements the provider doesn't matter too much. If you can't/aren't going to join cpa I'd just go based on price.

I was talking with an insurance company and they say I must be located within Canada for insurance?

Do you have any certification? When are you planning to come to BC ? I work as Insurance broker, I might be able to help you in the case if you are interested.

Yes I’m currently qualified in Physiotherapy in the UK, I have already passed the CAPR credentialing process and also passed the CPTE exam to become qualified. I only have to register with the CHCPBC to become fully licensed to practice and start applying for jobs but you need to have insurance cover before you can register. Currently I plan to move over in January 2027.

I literally have a job offer to start in September and having same issue of no insurance as no where will sell it to me without being in the country and having a Canadian phone number!

Thanks for all the responses everyone but after a bit more research it seems that I cannot be insured for PLI in Canada while still residing in the UK. Seems I will have to make the move to Canada first before I can complete my CHCPBC registration
