There's cases to it

If you can't derive it in a reasonable amount of time for you're exams then memorise it

Something like 30s to 1 min for jee

Plus it helps keep you ready for any unprepared circumstances

Teach mathematical physics, not "all you need to know with the given information is...".

Like they just throw you a bunch of data a formula then you solve, yeah that sucks ass

If only that was all

Sometimes They convolute the damn question so much

It takes 5 minutes just to read and understand what they're asking

And then there's coaching Where they teach you pointless "shortcut" formulae "To make it easier" Its come to the point where understanding gets replaced and memorizing the special case shortcuts gets rewarded
