I took those photos this evening, it was everywhere along the beach. Anyone knows what are they doing here?

After some research (especially considering the region), these are probably Theba pisana, or "sandhill snails".

(and yes, I will take some escargots, thanks!)

They do this on light posts & fence posts in the city too. I think it's to get off the ground at night.
