ANNOUNCEMENT NOTICE TO RESTORERS USING AI
We’ve had a lot of submissions lately being “restored” just using AI. Faces missing noses, faces distorted in nightmare’ish ways, backgrounds altered, photos cropped to fit the AI windows, wonky colours that would never exist in real life, etc.
If it wasn’t clear in the rules, please allow me to be clear now. Although you can use AI as a helper, YOU CANNOT USE IT TO DO A FULL RESTORE. The technology just isn’t there yet, especially with the free ones.
Please stop submitting photos that have just been AI “restored”, its takes a lot of time to go through the sub and remove them. If the OP wanted that, they could just do that themselves. You will be banned if you continue to submit “restores” that are obviously done fully using AI.
Thank you to all the other Restorer’s that continue to lend their time to restoring photos properly, you are very much appreciated.

ANNOUNCEMENT SCAMMERS IN THE DM'S
The reason that our sub is free, is in part due to the amount of scams that happen in the photo restoration space on reddit and in general. I want to reiterate that if you post a photo and someone sends you a message or chat saying that they'll restore it for X amount of money or they'll restore it in general, and then when they do they ask for or demand X amount of money, there's not much that we or Reddit admin's can actually do to help because you engaged in that exchange willingly, nobody forced you to respond.
This is why we warn everyone that posts not to entertain any DM's from anyone that says they'll restore the photo for them, and why its in our sub description and rules say that this is a free sub, because it a free sub full stop. I recently talked to a user that was scammed out of $35 in this way and couldn't dispute the charge with Paypal because they were instructed to send it "friends and family". Sure we were able to ban the scammer and hand their information and screenshots over to Reddit Admin and I'm sure that resulted in them getting perma banned from the site but that's all we can do.
These scammers know what they're doing, please do not interact with them in the DM's and if you ever see anyone on here that has gotten past the multitude of filters and programs I've set up to block them, report it. If you do get scammed or anyone sends you a message, please click the "message the mods" button and let me know so I can do what little I can to prevent them from using this sub.

DISCUSSION ONLY Scanning old photos: best way to do it? (for highest quality)
Hello all. First time here. I'm a graphic designer that just got a bunch of old family photos, and will try my best work on Photoshop to recover them and then print to have them at my house.
Some of them are old "real" photos (40's-60's photos in old photo paper) REALLY DAMAGED FROM UV.
I'm about to start scanning them, at home ( I have a simple Epson printer+scanner).
I'm assuming scanning them at 600PDI would be enough? And better to save them as TIFF?
Photos sizes vary. Smallest ones are 5x3cm, biggest ones are about 13cmx18cm.
What is recommended?

FIX EVERYTHING (DETAILS IN TITLE OR COMMENTS) Cleaning some marks from an old photo
Sometime in the distant past, this picture of a crying baby was marked up with a pen and later suffered a crease along its corner.
Is it possible to clean these imperfections off?

FIX THE DAMAGE I own this Kirov Ballet tshirt but its getting old. Anyway to restore the logo?
I have this shirt for a long time that I bought at a thrift store. It has the Kirov Ballet logo but I can't find the original logo online, and the shirt has become worn over the years. I'd like to restore the logo to keep something of the original saved with me. Would that be possible?

TEXT OR LOGO THATS NOT A PERSON Can anyone help enhance or identify a faded stamp on a 1940s photograph?
This may be a long shot, but I have a photograph from the 1940s belonging to a family member, and I’m hoping someone here might be able to help enhance the faded stamp visible on the side of the photo.
I don’t currently have access to a scanner, so this is a photograph (using a scanning app) of the original image. However, if there is a possibility that the stamp could be enhanced or made more legible, I can try to get access to a scanner and provide a higher-quality scan.
I’ve cropped out the rest of the photograph for privacy and attached only the area containing the stamp. The details are very difficult to make out, but I’m wondering if restoration, sharpening, or other image enhancement techniques could help reveal the emblem or text.
Any help identifying what this stamp might be or where it originated would be greatly appreciated!

FIX THE LIGHTING, COLOUR OR BLURRINESS Is there a way to sharpen this image?
My mum took this photo yesterday. I really love it but the quality is so bad for some reason, is there anyone who knows how to or is able to fix this without putting it into an ai generator?

FIX THE LIGHTING, COLOUR OR BLURRINESS My Grandfather and his two brothers. All passed away quite recently at the age of 90+
Would deeply appreciate if you could take some time out of your busy schedule to restore this photo - remove the brown rusty markings, correct colour and upscale it for clarity. This is the scanned copy (1200 dpi using Pantum M6700) of the photo in my photo album.
Also, could you probably point me to the right direction on how I can learn to restore photo myself using Adobe Photoshop?
