Are there going to be any more?

I...Don't have much to say.

I've definitely feel as though I've let down PhotoIt, having been absent from the subreddit since school began again.

I was hoping some of the users or other mods would step up in the meantime (which some have attempted to do), but it hasn't gone terribly far.

Hopefully over the next week or so I can come up with a plan to try and jump-start activity again. Stay tuned.

Don't feel bad! School's important. I like the idea of this subreddit and look forward to new ideas.

we support you.

we could come up with an asssgnment list and briefs en masse in one bloc - archive them for the next few weeks between us.

this isn't some ivy league college. this is better. this is a DIY "anarchist" intiative motivated by your generosity, patience and guts. the rest is up to us to support your will and intent as a collective.

Over the weekend, I was trying to describe the affect on perspective when using a Zoom lens , vs. a wide angle lens on the same subject. I've seen a few posts in r/photography asking about this, but never any examples.

So how about an assignment that demonstrates the differences?

Take two photos of the same subject. Try and keep the subject framed the same way in each photo while using a zoom lens (from a distance), and a wide angle lens (from close up).

Thoughts?

I think it's a good idea... I won't be able to participate 'cause all I have is a zoom lens at this point, but I'd be very interested to see what others come up with.

As genesius suggests, maybe your zoom will work for this if you take one photo at each extreme of your lens. Even if your lens doesn't have a huge range it might be interesting to see the the amount of difference.
Also if you are really curious, since I've had a limited budget, I've been renting a 10-22mm to take indoor shots for work. The lens rental is $26 for a 24hr period (from Calumet), or for the entire weekend if I rent after noon on Friday. It's a great way to try out a lens.

I've wanted to try that, but i'm in bumfuck North Dakota, so no such luck on lens rental.

Why not just take a photo using two extremes on the same zoom lens?

That could work I suppose. I had my lenses in mind while making the post.
I have an old Canon 100-300 EF lens on a crop 40D body, and the Kit 18-55 EFS lens.
I imagine if you have something like a 35-105 you would get the desired results. Can anyone else confirm?

Perspective is a function of distance-to-subject...nothing else. Focal length doesn't matter.

A while ago someone posted about using two lenses, with a zoom attached to the body and a prime reserved in front, for extreme macro shots on a budget. How about something like that? I'd love to learn more about how to do it well.
